Get Ready Carson City: Free Preparedness supplies and information

On Saturday, September 14, Carson City Emergency Management and Health and Human Services are excited to partner with the Carson City Home Depot for a special event in celebration of Get Ready Day.

From 8 am-3 pm on Saturday, representatives Carson City readiness agencies will be at the Home Depot on Market Street in Carson City to distribute bags and basic supplies for readiness kits and to answer questions that people may have about what to include in their kits.

Children's Museum to hold Sept. 28 grand opening of Science Room

Carson City sheriff warns of utility scammers calling customers

Southwest Gas and NV Energy customers are being targeted again by scammers calling and asking for personal information about their accounts and bills, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

Typically people are calling homes and businesses and identifying themselves as being with the utility company and asking for information about their power and in some cases, threatening to shut off the utility if a payment isn't made through a credit card or a cash transfer.

Man flown to Renown, faces felony charge of eluding after crashing into two vehicles

UPDATE: The suspect in the Monday crash, Thomas Paul Meader, 30, of Carson City, faces felony eluding causing injury and property damage, and felony hit and run causing injury. Misdemeanor charges including domestic battery, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, no valid driver's license, no proof of insurance, and two counts violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $59,583.

Carson City dines Hawaiian-style, raises $254,000 for Boys and Girls Clubs

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada hosted their annual fundraiser, “World’s Greatest Luau and Kids’ Auction” on Sunday in Carson CIty with more than 700 attending.

This year the event was a luau theme, complete with mai tais, a roasted pig, and Club member entertainment. Marv Teixeira, former Carson City mayor, was presented with the first-ever “Distinguished Service Award” for his commitment to the Club and the youth in Carson City.

Ellen Richardson-Adams named Deputy Administrator of Clinical Services

CARSON CITY — Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health Administrator Richard Whitley announced the appointment of Ellen Richardson-Adams as Deputy Administrator of Clinical Services, a new position within the division.

“Ellen is well respected by those she works with, is very experienced in a wide variety of public and behavioral health issues,” said Whitley in a press release.

As Deputy Administrator, Richardson-Adams will have direct oversight of Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services, Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services, Lake’s Crossing and Rural Services.

Two accidents, one involving bicyclist reported on west side of town

Two accidents this afternoon at roughly the same time in Carson City were called into dispatch. One involves a crash between a bicycle and a vehicle and the other was a two-vehicle crash, according to Carson City dispatch.

The bicycle accident was reported at around 2:35 p.m. in the area of Telegraph and Winters. The injured person was said to be a juvenile with a headache and lacerations to her face. Carson City Fire Department rescue teams have responded.

In the vehicle accident on Musser and Mountain streets, it appears to be a non-injury accident.

Carson City weekend arrests include misdemeanor assault on officer, disorderly conduct

A 19-year-old Carson City man faces five misdemeanor charges including assaulting a police officer after he barricaded himself inside his father's bedroom, with the father asking officers to have his son removed.

The man was arrested at 9:20 p.m., Sept. 7 in the 900 block of Woodside Drive. According to arrest report, officers were in the area attempting to locate the man, a known gang member, following a fight earlier in which he fled from officers.

Two female Carson City Jail inmates face felony battery charges

Two female inmates in the Carson City Jail face felony battery charges after a fight erupted at around 3 a.m. on Sept. 6. Amber Shields, 21, and Kayla Marie Robbins, 20, each face a felony charge of battery by a prisoner.

According to the arrest report, Carson City jail officers spoke with a woman who advised there had been a fight inside the jail involving three women, the victim, Shields and Robbins and that the victim had been punched in the face and head.

Common Cause Unites Women from the Latter-day Saints and the Salvation Army



The women’s organization from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and women from the Salvation Army, joined their efforts to assemble personal care kits for those in need.



“Our goal is to build 100 care kits and deliver them to the Dew-drop Inn, the Salvation Army, and the F.I.S.H. organizations here in Carson City,” said Caresse Williams, Humanitarian Specialist for the Latter-day Saints and organizer of the event. 



Motor scooters being used more on Carson City streets

It seems that everywhere we look as we are driving down the streets of Carson City, we see mopeds, or as they are more commonly known, scooters being operated on the roadways. I am asked time and time again if this is legal as many are unregistered.

Yes, some scooters may be operated upon the roadways however, there are restrictions. For example, a scooter need not be registered nor insured if the motor is under 50cc (cubic centimeters) and the vehicle does not exceed 30 mph on a level roadway.

CASA Of Carson City will hold an Information Hour, September 12, at 5:30pm. 1539 E. Fifth St. This informal event is a change for anyone who might be thinking about becoming a CASA Volunteer to stop by, ask questions and learn more.

CASA Volunteers are appointed by the Carson City Juvenile Court to serve as guardian ad litem--child advocate--for children taken into care due to abuse or neglect.
