Dear Readers, my name is Jordan River, born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, now a resident of Carson City, and I am trying to connect our local yoga enthusiasts and interested beginners into a community focused on becoming better at understanding our practice and all it has to offer.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The Nevada State Railroad Museum is holding train rides dedicated toward women’s suffrage on Saturday. Feeding Pets of the Homeless is hosting its 11th annual nationwide pet food and supply drive over the next three days, and there is plenty of live music for all to enjoy! Carson City Yoga will be closed as of March 15th. All classes are canceled through the end of March. The Open House that had been scheduled for March 21st has also been postponed. Midweek Meditation with Jenn Andrews runs for 8 weeks at a time. The first series this year begins January 22nd. You can come to the full 8 week series, or just come to each class individually when you can.

In this edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer talks with half of the sister team of Wild Horse Stage Company, part of Wild Horse Productions, and its upcoming production of "Heathers, The Musical: High School Edition" which begins later this month.

Sierra Scott is directing this high school edition of "Heathers" the musical, which runs weekends, March 20-29, at the Brewery Arts Center Black Box Theater in Carson City. Go here to watch the video interview.

Time flies as the sun shines going into the last Monday in February. Expect daytime highs around 60. Activities include are a political luncheon with Clint Koble, a primary candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, plus yoga, fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Heading into the first day of the work week, happenings around the capital city Monday include art and fitness activities, a luncheon highlighting presidential candidate Gov. Deval Patrick, a sunset walk at Washoe Lake State Park, a free Partnership Carson City Yoga class at the community center, a Valentine's blood drive, swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Happy Saturday Carson City! It’s going to be another beautiful day in the capital city, so make sure the get your sunshine while you can!

We’ve got a bunch of great events in the region through the weekend, so check below!

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Dozens of sweets are in store for Saturday. The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. Artsy Fartsy Gallery hosts its 9th annual Jewelry and Chocolate Show with several new decorative pieces. To cap-off Saturday, the legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra makes its way to the capital city.

Heading into the first Monday of February, we're hoping your post Super Bowl day is filled with a few extra dollars in your pocket, tasty leftovers for lunch and some good-hearted conversational quarterbacking. Activities around the capital city include a luncheon highlighting the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar, a free Partnership Carson City Yoga class at the Carson City Community Center, art activities and showings, swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

Heading into the last Monday of January 2020, we're looking at sunny skies and a warm-up, with highs in the low 50s. Activities around the capital city include a a luncheon highlighting the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren, a free Partnership Carson City Yoga class at the Carson City Community Center, art activities and showings, swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more. Moving forward to the first day of the work week, we're looking at sunny skies then blustery conditions Monday night and a slight chance of snow showers in the valleys into Tuesday morning. Activities around the capital city include the opening of the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum, the Winter Reading Challenge at the Carson City Library, a luncheon highlighting the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bennet, plus a free yoga class at the community center and more. Heading into Monday and moving forward to the first full week of 2020 we're looking at mostly sunny skies and a daytime high near 50. Activities lined include the Winter Reading Challenge at the Carson City Library, organizers of the Pete Buttigieg presidential campaign will give a presentation, art activities, plus a free yoga class at the Community Center and more. Anyone is welcome to join Partnership Carson City for its second free Wellness Yoga series Mondays at 5:15 p.m. for one hour at the Carson City Community Center.

All ages and genders can attend to take a physical and mental break as well as approach pain management in a holistic way, said Hannah McDonald, executive director of Partnership Carson City.

The spirit of Christmas is in the air as we head into the final stretch of the work week. Thursday events around the capital city feature an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a Carson City tradition with the return of Joyful Noise Holiday Community Show at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. Along the music front, CHS Band will host its winter concert at the Carson City Community Center and our own local country music star and Nashville recording artist Art Mulcahy will be at Jimmy G's. In December, Mondays don't really seem like Monday. At least for those of us caught up in the holiday spirit of giving and kindness. What a weekend of community fellowship this was among Carson City locals and we're just getting started, counting down the days until Christmas.

The days keep moving along, ever closer to the weekend and huge helpings of Christmas holiday activities. Thursday events around the capital city include a meeting of the Board of Supervisors, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a meeting with the developer of the proposed Andersen Ranch, a presentation: "Feathers and Furs of the Carson Valley" at the River Fork Ranch, an "End to Prohibition Party" at Gather restaurant, and more.

With Thanksgiving leftovers winding down, we're winding up to the second day in December and the first day of the work week ahead, with activities lined up through the weekend.
