UPDATE 9:15PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the person who was found injured in a field off Saliman and Pinto streets suffered a gunshot wound that appears self inflicted. There is no immediate outside threat to Carson High School, the sheriff informed Carson City School District officials. The school was never on lockdown.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies and the Carson City Fire Department were called called Tuesday morning to a person found severely injured but alive in a field near Carson High School with a gunshot wound to the head.

Good Day Carson City, it is Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018. The winter weather continues today albeit without any storm watches or warnings this morning. Light snow showers will continue today and and pick up tonight with less than an inch possible. As always be careful out on the roads. Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 delivered in a heroic way Tuesday night by presenting organizers of the Holiday with a Hero project with a contribution of $4,000 for the Christmas shopping program for local students in need.

For most, waking up this morning to rain was a big relief given the fire situation over the past few months. Today is Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018. The Carson City School District advises that Public Works will close a portion of Washington Street beginning Monday, Nov. 26, through the entire week. Washington Street will be closed between Sunset Way and Mountain Street.

With the arrival of this festival day of feast, family, friendship and thanks, Mother Nature delivered valley rain and Sierra snow overnight. Gusty winds are expected later this afternoon. This morning appears to be in between weather systems, which is good news for those headed to the Governor's Mansion for the annual Turkey Trot. It may be soggy, but not heavy on the rain side.

On Nov. 4, 1963, President John F. Kennedy issued Proclamation 3560, one of the Thanksgiving proclamations given by the U.S. president every year. Sadly, a little more than two weeks later, President Kennedy was assassinated.

This makes his final proclamation all that more poignant. In it he wrote, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

The Carson City School District Orchestra Program performs the second of four school-year concerts for the general public on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018 at the Community Center with free admission.

Under the direction of Dr. Brian Fox, the CCSD Orchestras is a blooming school music program in Carson City. Come to the Holiday Concert to hear Holiday favorites, as well as Mozart, Brahms, and music from Harry Potter.

Carson City's Holiday with a Hero announced Wednesday that its annual Holiday Crawl through downtown Carson City will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 5 to 10 p.m.

Carson City School District's Nutrition Program will host "Thanksgiving with a Hero" Thursday, Nov. 15, at Seeliger Elementary School.

CARSON CITY — In partnership with the History Channel and Charter, Spectrum Communications, Carson High School will host a ‘Take a Vet to School’ event in the school’s library, Wednesday in honor of Veteran’s Day.

The Carson City School District was recently recognized for its communication efforts as part of the Sierra Nevada Chapter of Public Relations Society of America annual award ceremony.

In acknowledgement of the Carson City School District’s sustainability achievements, the Northern Nevada Development Authority provided a Special Recognition of Excellence for Sustainability Practices during its monthly ‘The Business Edge’ meeting at the Carson Nugget Casino, Oct. 24.
