Wednesday Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. come meet the local businesses and artisans who supply the Museum Store with our local sourced products and art pieces. The Museum Store has the reputation of the to go place for Nevada items, come meet the people who make this possible!

New Exhibit
Friday Sept. 20 at 9:30 am join us in the Historic U.S. Mint Building for the ribbon cutting on the Museum’s newest exhibit “Mint to Museum.” Curator of History Emeritus Bob Nylen will be on hand for the ribbon cutting and to answer questions about this new exhibit which tells the history of the Carson City Branch of the U.S. Mint and the eventual transition of the building to the first Nevada State Museum. Event is open to the public, regular admission applies.

Mint Coin Show
Friday Sept. 20, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and continuing Saturday Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. the Museum in conjunction with Northern Nevada Coin is bringing back the Carson City Mint Coin Show! Come see some amazing and rare coins and collectibles from around the west from 12 separate vendors. This is a can’t miss for the Coin Collector in your life. Coin Press No. 1, the original Coin Press machine which operated in the Carson City Mint from 1870 until 1893 will be minting commemorative replica “Liberty Seated” medallions on Nevada sourced silver.

Tin Cup Roundup
Saturday Sept. 21, 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. please join the Friends of the Nevada State Museum at the Nevada Governor’s Mansion, 606 Mountain Street in Carson City, for the Tin Cup Roundup Barbecue, a fundraiser to restore the Nevada State Museum’s classic 1967 Chevrolet Stepside Pickup!

Who was Bob Boldrick? Carson City to celebrate theater named after dedicated stage manager

As Carson City is about to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Bob Boldrick Theater this Saturday at the Community Center, it’s important to know just who Bob Boldrick was and why this theater is named after him.

Since Bob Boldrick died 34 years ago on June 2,1990 after spending 13 years as the most integral part of the theater staff, there are not many around to remember that he was the all-around go-to guy who oversaw that stage productions went smoothly. That same job is being held today by Eric Klug.

Bob was born in San Diego in 1951 and after he married Deborah Rae Savel in 1977, he moved from San Diego to Carson City to manage the theater just three years after opening in 1974. He was only 39 when he died. Today, he is buried in Lone Mountain Cemetery and his widow and two daughters — Cynthia and Rebekah — relocated to Oregon.

On the lobby wall to the entrance of the theater is a plaque dedicated to the memory of Bob Boldrick that reads, “The sights and sounds in this Theater Reflect the Commitment this man had in Making each Production a Unique and Enjoyable Experience for the People of Carson City. His memory Lives on with Every Performance.” Dedicated September 4, 1990.

Today, the Bob Boldrick Theater is used almost daily as a regional theater for many productions and events. It was refurbished in 2018 to provide a more comfortable experience for those attending a performance. Mayor Bob Crowell and Susan Crowell hosted the grand re-opening gala in January of 2019 organized by the Carson City Chamber raising r $20,200 to refurbish the lobby area by putting in new lighting and providing funds for curtains and whatever else was needed to make the lobby warm and inviting. The WNMTC cast of Mama Mia sang Abba tunes to the delight of the esteemed audience.

Many stars have been born in this storied theater as they were directed by Western Nevada Musical Theater College producer/director Stephanie Arrigotti who has produced 107 productions, most performed in the Bob Boldrick Theater.

We know that Bob Boldrick would have loved all the WNMTC theater productions, most especially the production of Mama Mia, enjoying the songs that would have been so familiar to him during his brief lifetime.

While there are not many who may remember the life and times of Bob Boldrick, his name is forever memorialized in our theater as a citizen who made a difference through his love and dedication of the arts. He was not an elected official, historical figure, benefactor or other dignitary. He was an ordinary man who worked hard and gained the love and respect of those who worked with him.

A day of free family fun for the community is planned in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Bob Boldrick Theater located at the Carson City Community Center.

The block party will begin on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. with free activities and games for the whole family all around the Community Center, including face painting, temporary tattoos, cornhole, bubbles, a puppet-making craft; hands-on learning experiences hosted by local groups, food trucks and more. League of Women Voters to host four October election forums at BAC in Carson City

League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums and AAUW Capital (NV) Branch, will present four free election forums featuring candidates and ballot question information on October 7, 9, 14, and 16 beginning at 6 pm each night at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St in Carson City. Doors open at 5:30 pm.

The forums are co-sponsored by the Nevada Appeal. The free forums will feature state and local candidates and experts on the questions that will appear on the Nov. 5 ballot. The forums will be conducted with a live audience.

Candidates and presenters will respond to questions posed by the moderator. Audience members may ask questions in writing. The forums will be available for later viewing on the Nevada Appeal’s YouTube page and through links on organizations’ websites, Facebook pages or other social media.

“Voters who view these forums can become fully informed about the candidates and the ballot questions,” said Catherine Cunningham, LWVNNV board member.

The lineups for the four evenings are as follows:

Oct. 7, 2024: Carson City local ballot questions on road funding pro and con speakers; Carson City Mayor: Lori Bagwell, Jim Shirk; Carson City Board of Supervisors Ward 2: Maurice White; Carson City Board of Supervisors Ward 4: Lucia Maloney, Lisa Schuette.

Oct. 9, 2024: District Court Judge: Mark Krueger, Kristin Luis; Carson City School District Trustee District 2: Rebecca Roberts (declined); District 5: Ashilee Saucedo (invited), Mike Walker; District 7: John Henley, Michelle Pedersen; Assembly District 40: Philip “PK” O’Neill, Katherine Ramsey.

Oct. 14, 2024: Voting Issues: Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar and Deputy Secretary of Elections Mark Wlaschin, Carson City Clerk-Recorder Scott Hoen (invited); Ballot Question 7: Voter ID Pro/Con speakers; Ballot Question 3 Ranked Choice/Open Primary: Mock ranked choice voting demonstration and Pro/Con speakers.

Oct. 16, 2024: U.S. House of Representatives, Congressional District 2: Mark Amodei, Greg Kidd; Ballot Question 1 Board of Regents, Pro/Con speaker; Ballot Questions 2 and 4: Explanations; Ballot Question 5 Sales tax exemption for diapers, Pro/Con speaker; Ballot Question 6 Abortion access in the Constitution, Pro/Con speakers.

'The Accidental Conservationists' chautauqua presentation coming Oct. 29 to Carson City's BAC

Local authors and historians David and Gayle Woodruff will re-enact the characters of one of the wealthiest couples on the West Coast during the 1920s through 1950s at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on Oct. 29.

George and Elia Whittell kept an African Lion for a pet, owned over 25 miles of Lake Tahoe waterfront, built one of the most beautiful estates on Lake Tahoe’s shore, hosted high stakes poker games with the rich and famous, and unintentionally conserved a large portion of Lake Tahoe lands for the public to enjoy today.

21 locations picked to get mural treatment at 2nd annual Carson City Murals & Music Festival

The Brewery Arts Center’s second annual Carson City Murals & Music Festival will bring live musical performances and as many as 21 new, colorful murals to Carson City beginning Thursday, Sept. 26 through Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024. This year’s festival artists will add to the 23 murals created at last year's inaugural festival.

Local, national and international artists will create murals in public spaces around Carson City. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet artists as they create their murals over the three three-day festival, including Jabi Corte from Spain; Priscilla Aldana G. (Prism) from Mexico; Charly Malpass from Truckee, Calif., Gregg Deal from the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe and others.

The BAC announced Tuesday there will be 21 locations that will be getting the 2024 festival mural treatment. They are:

I’m excited to reunite and meet everyone involved in this year’s Murals & Music festival. See you all in the Capital City!”

The murals from 2023’s festival serve as a permanent outdoor art gallery. The murals painted during the 2024 festival will expand Carson City’s accessible public art for all to enjoy.

Nightly musical performances will also be available, including a headlining performance from Mike Clark & The Sugar Sounds on the outdoor stage at the Brewery Arts Center on Saturday, Sept. 28. Festival goers can also participate in hands-on art experiences painting at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada and creating with clay at Ogres-Holm Pottery. Brewery Arts Center, Visit Carson City and Carson City Parks, Recreation, and Open Space are partnering to produce the festival as a public art campaign that aligns with the city’s 2022-26 Arts and Culture Strategic Plan. Sierra Nevada Realtors host UNR tailgate Saturday, to donate funds to support Davis Fire victims

Sierra Nevada Realtors is hosting a tailgate party at the University of Nevada, Reno football game this Saturday, Sept. 21 and has partnered with United Way to donate funds raised to those affected by the Davis Fire.

For this fundraiser, $10 from every game ticket purchased here goes directly to United Way, providing critical resources like food, shelter, medical supplies and emergency financial assistance to families in need.

To celebrate the community coming together to support, SNR’s tailgate will have bites to eat, fun games and special appearances by Nevada Cheer and the Wolf Pack Marching Band. The tailgate will begin at 10 a.m., with kickoff at noon. The tailgate is located across the street from the post office on campus off of N. Virginia and 17th Street.

Greater Nevada Credit Union offers disaster assistance loans for those impacted by Davis Fire

To support community members impacted by the Davis Fire, Greater Nevada Credit Union opened applications for its Disaster Assistance Loan Program.

“Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to everyone impacted, especially the families displaced and the first responders who have worked tirelessly to control the flames and manage the emergent nature of the Davis Fire,” said Danny DeLaRosa, president and CEO of GNCU. “While we are grateful for their success, we understand that recovery will take time and many face unforeseen and impactful expenses. At Greater Nevada, we believe in the strength of our community. We stand by our community not just in words, but in actions, because together, we live greater.”

The Disaster Assistance Loan Program provides financial assistance to qualifying Nevada residents suffering economic loss or hardships due to disasters such as wildfires, severe storms and other weather-related natural events. These loans can help with property loss, hotel expenses due to evacuation and other financial impacts from the fire. The program offers flexible options to individuals needing short-term financing, and origination and application fees are waived.
