NV Energy: Multiple outages, thousands without power in Carson City, Douglas and Lyon counties
NV Energy reports dozens of power outages affecting thousands of customers Saturday between Washoe County, Carson City, Douglas and Lyon counties.
In Carson City, the largest of the outages is affecting nearly 6,000 customers. Earlier Saturday there were more than 4,000 customers without power in Douglas County on the Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe side but that number lowered to around 2,000 customers as of 3:15 p.m.
Also, as of 4:30 p.m. Saturday there's at least 700 NV Energy customers in Dayton and 521 customers on Highway 50 East near Mound House. Thousands more are without power from Washoe Valley north into Reno.
Statewide more that 28,000 people are without power late Saturday afternoon, mostly throughout Northern Nevada. See the latest outage map here.
Heavy snow has caused a number of downed power lines throughout the region. A power line is reportedly down across the road on 5th Street in Carson City as well as Butti and Fairview. Traffic was being diverted.
Northern and Western Nevada, Lake Tahoe and Sierra are under a Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service until 4 a.m. Sunday.
Meanwhile, Storey County sent out a notice Saturday afternoon at around 4 p.m. stating that due to NDOT staffing concerns, the county anticipates that State Route 341 and State Route 342 will close for up to 8 hours to allow for plowing of the roads. Time frame for the closure is unknown at this time.
"If you have lodging, dinner or other reservations for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in Virginia City, contact the host property or location/venue for the latest information," according to the news release.
