Carson City sheriff’s arrests: Deputies jail man for assaulting officer, three for domestic battery

A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 5:10 p.m. for gross misdemeanor suspicion of battery on a police officer, resisting and violation of a suspended sentence, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was investigating a stolen vehicle report and learned the suspect took the vehicle from his ex-wife, claiming it was his. She gave a deputy the title of the vehicle that showed she was the legal owner.

Dispatch advised DMV showed the man to be the registered owner. The woman advised she paid off the vehicle several years ago and the title was transferred solely into her name as part of the divorce decree, the arrest report states.

A deputy responded to the man’s house and asked to speak with him. The man was intoxicated and became belligerent and aggressive, saying it was his truck and he could take it whenever the wanted it, the arrest report states. He was asked to step outside to speak with the officer, and away from children standing at the door.

The officer extended arm to show him outside when the man grabbed hold of the officer’s arm, was in reach of the officer's duty weapons. The officer believed the man was about to punch him, the arrest report states. The deputy struck the man with the goal of distracting him in order to free his arm.

The deputy called for backup. The man was told to stay on the ground but he ignored the officer. The man attempted to rush the deputy, who deployed a Taser at him. He remained non-compliant, attempting to get up. The officer warned him he would be tasered again if he didn’t comply. The man then placed his hands behind his back and was taken into custody. The deputy spoke with the man who denied he threw the coffee, saying instead that the woman threw the coffee at him. He did not have wet clothes. When officers observed he didn’t have wet clothes, the man said he changed. The deputy asked to see the clothing he said had coffee on them.
