Carson City sheriff's deputies make arrests for alleged drug sales, DUI and domestic battery

Two were arrested Thursday for suspicion of felony drug offenses with one suspected of selling methamphetamine, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Nicholas Vest, 35, and Jeanne Odaye, 50, were taken into custody following an investigation that happened following a traffic stop. Vest was booked for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sales, (4.3 grams of methamphetamine, packaged) possession of a controlled substance, and two misdemeanor contempt of court warrants issued out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $15,000 for possession of a controlled substance for sales, $2,500 for possession and $6,000 cash for two contempt of court warrants.

Odaye was booked for alleged felony obtaining or using an identification of another to avoid prosecution, possession of a controlled substance and a felony bench warrant issued out of Carson City Justice Court. Total bail amount listed $10,000 bondable, plus $3,000 cash for the warrant.

In other arrests:
— A 47-year-old Kings Beach, Calif., man, Jose Rodriguez Mendoza, was arrested Friday in the area of Airport Road and Minonee Lane for a felony warrant out of Reno Township Court. The warrant was issued in April 2018. Bail: $20,000.

— A 24-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 11:36 p.m. for violation of bail, pretrial supervision from the Department of Alternative Sentencing. Bail: $3,000 cash.

— A 27-year-old man was arrested Friday for suspicion of domestic battery. According to the booking report, the Carson City Sheriff's Office responded to a call on Dec. 12, in which a man allegedly hit his mother in the face and left the residence.

Deputies spoke with the victim, who declined medical attention. Based on the redness of the woman's left cheek, and statements of events, the man was determined to be arrestable for the alleged offense. He was located Friday and taken into custody. Bail: $3,000.

— A 28-year-old Dayton man was arrested Saturday for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI. According to the booking report, a deputy observed a dust cloud on North Lompa south of the intersection of Northridge Drive. The officer drove closer to the dust cloud and found a white vehicle that had crashed through a chain link fence.

The deputy exited his vehicle and could smell the odor of burnt rubber and observed a tire skid from the northbound side of North Lompa that continued across the southbound lanes and through the chain link fence. The driver was climbing out of the driver's seat and was the sole occupant.

The officer asked the man what happened. He said he did not know how fast he was going and that he spun off the road and crashed through the fence. The man stated he left a friend's Christmas party, was punched in the face, and that he left angry. He was asked if he had been drinking. The man replied he had. The man denied medical attention. The officer observed red, watery eyes and a moderate odor of alcohol coming from his breath, the report states.

He admitted to having a margarita and a shot of tequila about an hour prior. He submitted to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test of .188 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he provided evidentiary breath tests of .115 and .114. Bail: $1,137.

— A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of DUI second, open container and improper stop.

According to the booking report, a deputy followed a vehicle when it rolled through a stop sign on Proctor and Plaza, making a left turn on Plaza and then pulled into a parking spot. The officer conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver.

The officer approached and it took multiple knocks on the window for the man to roll it down, the report states. Once he did, the officer could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage. The man was observed to have red, watery eyes. As he spoke, an odor of alcohol was on his breath. The officer asked how much he had to drink. The man stated two, admitting later to drinking two vodka tonics 30 minutes prior.

The deputy started standardized field sobriety tests for the man, who showed signs of impairment. He was arrested. Deputies located 2 open containers in the man's vehicle and could see a cup sitting in the middle console filled with a alcoholic beverage and a straw. There was also an open White Claw can in the passenger side door. At jail he provided evidentiary breath tests of .180 and .181. Bail: $2,500.

— A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Monday morning for suspicion of DUI and failure to dim headlamps. The man was stopped for driving with his high beams on. The man was the sole occupant of the vehicle and deputies could smell a strong odor of acohol coming from the vehice.

A deputy made contact with he man, who said he had two beers. The officer observed the man to be disoriented and was slurring his speech, the report states. He consented to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .163. He was arrested. At jail evidentiary breath test results were .200 and .201. Bail: $1,137.

UPDATE 6 p.m.: Courtesy of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: On May 3, 2024 at approximately 1430 hours, Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with Central Lyon County, Carson City and Storey County Fire personnel to the area of 34 Newman Ln. for a report of motorhome on fire. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the fire had spread and multiple other abandoned vehicles caught fire as well. No one was hurt or injured during the incident. The incident is currently under investigation, which is being conducted by the Nevada State Fire Marshall’s Division.

UPDATE 2:38 p.m.: Firefighters from Storey are also now responding.

UPDATE 2:33 p.m.: Multiple vehicles on the property are engulfed in flame.

Around 2:15 p.m. a fire was reported at 34 Newman Lane in Mound House.

Firefighters from Carson City and Lyon County are enroute to the scene.

UPDATE 1:20 p.m.: According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, a student reported they saw a weapon. The incident was investigated and there was no weapon found. The lockdown has now been lifted and students are leaving the school.

UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: Update 05-03-24 at 1:15 p.m.
One student has reported an alleged weapon sighting. It has not been corroborated, but school officials and the sheriff’s office are investigating out an abundance of caution.

UPDATE 12:50 p.m.: The following update was provided by the district:

Carson High School was put on lockdown this afternoon around 12:15 p.m. No person was injured. There is an active situation being investigated in cooperation with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. We will provide more information as it becomes known. The school is secure. Do not go to the school. No entrances will be permitted at time. The district will provide updates every 30 minutes. Expect the next update at 1:15 p.m.

Carson High School is currently on a lockdown as of 12:40 p.m. Friday, but there has been no incident reported according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.
