Carson City Supervisors appoint two members to the Regional Transportation Commission
The Carson City Board of Supervisors appointed two residents to the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) during the Thursday meeting. The board reappointed Charles Macquarie and appointed Gregory Novak for the second vacancy.
The RTC is comprised of five members who also represent CAMPO (Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization), which establishes priorities and recommends appropriate funding fo transportation improvement projects within Carson City.
Charles “Chas” Macquarie
According to his application, Macquarie has been a resident of Carson City for 33 years, and is a registered civil engineer in the state of Nevada. He has designed road and multi-use paths in Carson City and Northern Nevada, according to his application.
“I understand the challenges of funding the much-needed street maintenance needs of the City, and feel I can contribute to finding working solutions to these issues," he said.
Macquarie holds a Bachelor of Science with honors, majoring in Civil Engineering from the University of Leeds, England UC Berkeley Extension.
“I have been involved in the planning, design, permitting and construction of transportation projects in both England and the US for 42 years,” Macquarie says in his application. “These projects have ranged from freeways to rural and urban streets to multi-use paths. I am a registered civil engineer in Nevada and California.”
Gregory Novak
According to his application, Novak graduated from Cornell University with B.S.C.E. and M.E. (C) degrees, and has participated in Federal highway Administration In-Service training over his 47-year career.
Novak is a registered professional engineer in Nevada and California, and possesses qualifications in “education, experience in all aspects of the transportation program, including planning, environment, design, construction, operations and maintenance,” according to his application.
Novak worked for the Federal Highway Administration from 1979 until 2020 in various positions within the federal-aid highway program including traffic and safety, technology transfer, research, intelligent transportation systems, planning, environment, design, maintenance, and operations.
Major projects he has worked on included U.S. 95, I-11, I-580, ReTRAC, Neon, U.S. 50 Loop Road and F.A.S.T. (Las Vegas).
