Carson City deputies make arrests for alleged burglary, battery by a prisoner
A 34-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of felony burglary, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.
Donald Matysek was taken into custody at 3:59 p.m. following an investigation. According to the booking report, deputies responded to a residence for a report of a residential burglary.
Deputies investigating learned the suspect, Matysek, allegedly broken into the garage and then attempted to make entry into the residence through both the front door and the sliding glass door located at the rear of the home and also learned the suspect had previously attempted to break into the residence on Thanksgiving Day.
Deputies took photos of the general area including fresh footprints, the garage door, front door, side gate and sliding glass door. A hammer and plastic license plate from had been left by the front garage and was collected as evidence. Deputies learned from a witness who stated they saw the suspect walk up the driveway and enter the garage, and then saw the suspect several minutes later exit the garage with a hammer and then attempted to enter the residence through the front door, then going to the side of the house, the report states.
Deputies learned the suspect was last seen walking into the vicinity of South Plaza and Sixth Street. A patrol unit was dispatched and the suspect was located, detained and read his Miranda rights. The suspect waived his rights and stated he was willing to talk to deputies.
During the interview, the man confirmed he was not on the lease at the residence and admitted to being at the property on Thanksgiving Day and then said he opened the garage door to retrieve his tools and knocked on the front door. He did not confirm or deny he was in the backyard and said he did not want to say anything incriminating. At that point the deputy terminated the interview.
The suspect was placed under arrest for suspicion of residential burglary Bail: $20,000.
In other arrests:
— Two inmates at Carson City Jail, James Patterson, 47, of Carson City and Shayne Weingarten, 33, of Dixon, Calif., were each booked for suspicion of felony battery by an inmate.
According to the booking report, video evidence linked the two men to a battery that happened Dec. 3 at the jail. Bail; $20,000 each.
