— Speakers from Tu Casa Latina at Healthy Communities December Meeting. 9 a.m. The December Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties meeting is Thursday, December 13th at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center. The public meeting includes a festive holiday brunch with dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. Guest Speakers: Daysi Rodriguez, and other staff and interns from Tu Casa Latina, are among our guest speakers this month. Tu Casa Latina is dedicated to building a better life for women, men and children who are victims of domestic violence, trafficking, or abuse in northern Nevada. They accomplish this through direct service, education, advocacy, and community involvement. The community center is located at 2945 Ft. Churchill St, Silver Springs.
— Comments sought concerning historic native remains at Nevada State Museum workshop. 9 a.m. The Nevada State Museum in Carson City is hosting a public workshop to solicit comments on proposed new regulations pertaining to treatment and repatriation of objects and human remains from known Native American burial sites on private property. The regulations pertain to Chapter 381 of the Nevada Administrative Code. A bill passed in the 2017 Nevada Legislature required the director of the Nevada State Museum to establish and implement such regulations, and the public hearing is part of the process. The changes include state permitting procedures, consultation with tribes, and repatriation of remains and grave goods to tribes. The workshop is scheduled for 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St. The meeting can also be viewed via video-conference at the Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas, 309 S. Valley View Blvd.
— Holiday Craft Fair at the Carson Mall. The Carson Mall Craft Fair includes local crafts, toys, clothes, Santa and more! The Fair will run until Christmas Eve from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Santa and his elves will be joining the fair inside the Carson Mall for meet and greets and pictures on Saturdays and Sundays through December 23.
— Family Story Time at Carson City Library. 10:30 a.m. Weekly themed singing, stories, finger-plays, or art centered around a book. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. Carson City Library is located at 900 Roop Street in Carson City.
— Thursday Hike to Ash to King's Canyon Trail (partial) hosted by Muscle Powered. 3 p.m. Join Muscle Powered for its free hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Meet at the end of the asphalt of Ash Canyon Road to carpool to trailhead. Bring a friend and/or friendly dogs. All hikes are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more. Water and sturdy or athletic shoes are required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended. Some trails are dirt and others are paved.
— LEGO Club at Carson City Library, 4 to 6 p.m. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Roop Street.
— Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce hosts December Mixer. 6 p.m. There will be a December mixer of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center on Thursday, Dec. 13, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Dayton Valley Golf Course and Country Club. The event will feature: An ugly sweater theme, mix and mingle with other local businesses, hors d’oeurves. Bring your business cards. There will be raffle prizes. — Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church hosts Caring and Sharing Christmas Concert and "Food Raiser." 7 p.m. A Caring and Sharing Christmas holiday concert to celebrate the season of joy, hosted by the Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church, is scheduled for Thursday evening, Dec. 13, 2018 at 7 p.m.
Local talent will be joining us in sharing the gift of music in this community event. The Event is a "food raiser" for the Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church Food Pantry. Entrance to the concert will be two non-perishable food items per person. Please join us for a wonderful night of music. Cookies and cocoa will follow the concert.

— Under the Skin: Tattoo Art at Western Nevada College. 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Art from Northern Nevada and Northern California tattoo artists are featured in the latest exhibit at Western Nevada College’s (WNC) Main Gallery. The “Under the Skin: Tattoo Art” exhibit includes 50 pieces of art — many of which are available for purchase. Mediums include oil, watercolor, acrylic, ink and 3D pieces. The exhibit will show through Monday, Dec. 17, with a closing reception scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 13 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The tattoo artists are from Tattoo BonBon in South Lake Tahoe, Skeleton Skin Tattoo in Mound House, Authentic Tattoo Company in Reno, Stingray Tattoo in Reno, Black Cat Tattoo in Reno, Hooligan’s Ink in Carson City and The Ruby Lantern in Carson City. The Main Gallery is located in WNC’s Bristlecone Building. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Scoup's Ice Cream and Soup Bar has purchased 12 gifts from some of our local businesses, each one to be gifted to 12 lucky individuals. Items to be gifted come from Rocking And Rolling, Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery, The Purple Avocado, Gather, The Bike Smith, Touched by an Angel, Carson City Culture and Tourism Authority, Carson Jewelry and Loan, Rustically Divine, and Kaleidoscope. Drawing tickets will be given to our customers with each purchase. The drawing will continue as long as we have tickets (7,654 tickets) or until Dec. 21, at closing, one day prior to the last drawing. — Toys for Tots Carson City and surrounding counties offers hotline for toys. Toys for Tots will be offering gifts to families in Carson City, Douglas, Storey and Lyon counties for Christmas. — Christmas tree permits available on Carson, Bridgeport ranger districts. Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be available for purchase now through Dec. 25. The U.S. Forest Service Christmas Tree Program is designed for families, businesses, and institutions wishing to cut their own trees for decorating. Christmas tree permits must be purchased in person and are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis for $10 each, with a limit of two trees per household. Permits are nonrefundable and nontransferable, and only valid through Dec. 25, 2018. The Ranger Districts have a limited amount of Christmas tree permits available, and once those allotted permits are sold, no more will be available.

— The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, Americana with Cadmium Orange, by artist Gig Depio at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Depio is an artist and an advocate for public art in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was awarded the 2016 Fellowship Grant in Painting by the Nevada Arts Council (NAC). He has worked on various exhibitions and projects with the Nevada Museum of Art, Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, and UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum, among others. Depio graduated from Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines. He lives in Las Vegas with his family. Carson City Courthouse Gallery, 885 E. Musser Street in Carson City.
— Meals on Wheels Carson City will be participating in the 2018 Subaru Share the Love Event as a member of Meals on Wheels America, one of four national Share the Love charitable partners supported through the promotion. From Nov. 15 through Jan. 2, 2019, Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased to the customer's choice of participating charities.
