Carson City family estate donates $500K among Humane Society, NRA and Railroad Museum
In the spirit of giving and the Christmas holidays ahead, three organizations will receive generous donations amounting to more than $500,000 in memory of Frances M. Parker, a longtime Carson City resident and former owner of the Crossroads Lounge.
On Dec. 18, the following organizations will receive donations:
— The Nevada Humane Society: $258,165.35. The donation will be for the spaying, neutering and medical care of pets in the Carson City center.
— The National Rifle Association: $253,861.41. The donation to the NRA is specifically for Second Amendment legislation.
— The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City: $106,601.27. The donation is for the V&T rolling stock, which is their restoration efforts.
"With the holidays here, it's a rather nice, generous boost for these organizations," said Scott McDaniel, a retired Carson City Sheriff's Office sergeant and friend of the Parker family who helped with the estate planning.
There will be a presentation event at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Wednesday, Dec. 18, 10:30 a.m., 2180 South Carson Street. Representatives of each organization will be in attendance.
