A 19-year-old Carson City man who appeared to be suffering from mental health issues was arrested in the 1300 block of Fleetwood Ave. for attempted grand larceny of a motor vehicle after allegedly trying to steal a Door Dasher’s car.
According to the arrest report, the Door Dasher was dropping off a delivery and left his vehicle running. While on his way back to the vehicle, he saw a “young skinny male in a white hoodie” had gotten into the driver’s seat and was attempting to steal and drive off with the vehicle.
The dasher said he yelled at the man and was able to get to the driver’s side of the vehicle and pull him out.
The man ran across the street to the backyard of a home while the dasher called 911. He told dispatch he believed the man lived at the home he’d fled to.
Deputies arrived on scene and went into the backyard where they heard yelling. Deputies located the man wearing a white hoodie standing on the roof of a large storage shed holding a large stick.
Deputies told the man at gunpoint to come down from the shed. The man climbed down and dropped the stick and was placed in handcuffs without issue.
The dasher positively identified the man as the suspect.
Deputies spoke to the man who said he saw the vehicle and a voice told him to make a “Halloween prank” and go to the vehicle to scare someone. Deputies asked where he lived, and he stated he was staying with friends at the residence across the street.
