Annual Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive happening this Friday

You can help the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and other nonprofits during KTVN 2 News annual Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive happening this Friday at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City, the Carson Valley Inn, Minden and at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno.

Drop-off locations will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Although all non-perishable items are accepted, some suggestions include:

Canned Meats

Canned Fish

Peanut Butter

Macaroni & Cheese and Pasta Meals

Powdered Milk

Baby Formula, Baby Food

Complete Meals-Stews, Chili, Ravioli, Hearty Soups, etc.

Canned Fruits, Juice and Vegetables

Dry Cereal

Oatmeal

Rice

Pasta

You can also text the word "SHARE" and then a dollar amount to 50155 to donate directly to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

Share Your Christmas donations will help those less fortunate in our communities through the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, F.I.S.H., the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, Advocates to End Domestic Violence, and the Carson-Valley Food Community Food Closet.

In 2020 the community was able to collect more than 447,000 pounds of food and more than $300,000.

Nevada Humane Society in Carson City will offer a new clinic beginning this week to allow for low-cost spay and neuter surgeries. The clinic is part of the new Carson City Animal Shelter operated by NHS that opened October 2016.

Silver City offers a tour of its community garden Tuesday August 8th

Silver City Community Garden committee members are offering a free tour of the garden for children with their parents on Tuesday, August 8th at 10am.

The potential for heavy rain from developing thunderstorms in western Nevada including Carson City has prompted the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a flash flood watch through Sunday night.

My family and I were barbecuing in front of our house when we saw two bucks eating our bushes. We kept our distance of course, and they didn't seem nervous or disturbed by us being out there along side them. One appears to be a 12 or 13 point buck.

Due to expected inclement weather, all three harmonica events today, Sunday, Aug. 6, will be held in the Brewery Arts Center (BAC) Performance Hall. The Red Tango performance will still be in the BAC Ballroom from 1 to 3 p.m. as planned. These are all part of the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival.
