Carson Dodge Chrysler Jeep breaks ground on new service center in Carson City
Jim Cryer broke ground on his dealership's new service center using a bright red shovel that he brought out of storage for the first time.
"I've been waiting a long time to use this," he said on his way to the construction site to the rear of the sales center at Carson Dodge Chrysler Jeep, located at 3059 South Carson Street in Carson City.
Carson City Manager Nick Marano attended Friday on behalf of the city.
Cryer is investing a little over $1 million to expand the dealership's current service center, Service Manager Don Radtke said, doubling its size and increasing staff by about 25 percent.
"We've seen more than a 60 percent increase in service business over the past three years," Radtke said. "We've gotten real efficient, but we're just kind of cramped on space. We're fortunate to get some brick and mortar to handle that."
Currently, the service department operates out of a little less than 7,000 square feet. The new addition, scheduled for completion around early summer next year, doubles the space and will include state-of-the-art features for the conveniencce of both service professionals and customers alike, Radtke said.
With brand-new high-tech lifts, a laser alignment machine, new compressors, hoses and reels, as well as a central computerized service system, the dealership's new service center is being built for long-term growth, Radtke said.
Each service bay will also feature water and oil recovery systems that make service cleaner and more efficient.
Radtke said the service center is going to expand from a staff of 40 to more than 50 once the new addition is completed in about six months, weather permitting.
