Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Inmates charged with battery of another prisoner
A pair of Carson City Detention Center inmates were charged with felony battery by prisoner Friday afternoon at 12:40 p.m. at the Carson City Jail after video surveillance footage showed one inmate getting jumped by two others in a cell, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.
Duffy Thomas, 28, of Carson City and 28 year-old transient, Jacob Madden, were arrested at the jail after Sheriff's deputies responded to a physical altercation between inmates.
Two inmates were found on top of a third inmate at the bottom of the pile. All three were instructed to get off each other and they complied. The bottom inmate was escorted out of the cell to separate him from the other two. On the way, he told a deputy that the two other inmates had jumped him, the arrest report said.
The victim reported that he had gone to his cell to get a score sheet for a card game when he noticed Madden following him, the report said. When the victim asked Madden what he was doing, the latter threw his arms up and moved in a threatening manner toward the victim.
Madden reportedly took the victim to the floor, the report said, proceeding to hit him in the face and mid-section. The victim also reported that Thomas had grabbed his legs to assist Madden.
On observation, the victim exhibited visible injuries to his face and right side.
Madden exercised his Miranda rights and declined to answer questions, the report said, while Thomas told deputies he had gone into the cell to stop the altercation.
Video surveillance footage showed Madde and the victim playing cards at a table. The victim was shown getting up from the table and proceeding to his cell. Madden was shown following him and partially closing the cell door upon entry, the report said.
Thomas was shown arriving later and closing the cell door behind him.
The charges were added to both inmates. Bail for each: $20,000.
