Carson City Toyota donates $15,000 to Carson City, Douglas and Lyon County school districts
The school districts of Nevada have long-faced critically thin budgets, but the impact of the pandemic has further increased those stresses. Locally, three school districts received extra funds today to help ease that stress, courtesy of Carson City Toyota.
Carson City, Lyon County, and Douglas County School Districts were all on hand Thursday at Carson City Toyota to accept the $15,000 donation from the local business. Each district will receive $5,000 and can use the funds how they need it most.
“We know the schools are all facing their own unique challenges, so we thought it would be best for them to be able to choose the way they are able to utilize this donation,” said Carson City Toyota General Manager, Jeff Campagni.
The plans for the funds were varied between technology, grants, and additional supplies for COVID-related safety for the three separate districts.
Superintendent Keith Lewis of Douglas County School District, said, “This money is already ‘spent’,” referring to the immense technological needs of the district during this uncharted time. “We are working to enhance the hybrid education model for both students and teachers. This donation will help us continue to do just that.”
Carson City School District, while still undecided, likely looks to allocate the funds to be used by the Carson City Schools Foundation. The Foundation provides a variety of financial services for students, teachers and staff, including grants, student financial aid for sports or school activities, and more.
Harman Bains, Director of Business Services for Lyon County School District, said they intended to use the funds for additional supplies needed for ensuring health and safety, such as masks, gloves, and disinfectants. There is also potential for some technological devices for students, like wi-fi hot spots or ChromeBooks.
Campagni said, “We are proud to be able to assist our local schools with some of their more pressing needs, especially ones they hadn’t planned to have to budget for this school year. We hope it makes a difference for local students, teachers and staff.”
