Nine Carson City student winners announced for American Citizen Essay Contest

If you transport a watercraft on any public highway in Nevada, you are now required to have your drain plugs, drain valves and any other removable device used to control the draining of water removed and open while transporting the vessel.

Governor Brian Sandoval on Monday officially signed Assembly Bill 85 into law, requiring all Nevada students to receive instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, also known as CPR, and the use of an automated external defibrillator before graduation from high school.

A 29-year-old Fernley woman who pled guilty in a Lyon County courtroom to driving under the influence of a controlled substance causing death and driving under the influence of a controlled substance causing substantial bodily harm, was sentenced to prison.

Taylor Saarem, Nicolaus Salm and Megan Tingle of Carson High School were honored as the 2017 Nevada Parent Teacher Association’s Battle Born Scholarship Winners. Both Saarem and Salm earned $500 scholarships while Tingle earned the highest $1,000 scholarship. Students from Carson City Made up nearly half of the 2017 winners — only seven candidates in the state were awarded scholarships.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division is asking for help in identifying suspects in multiple credit card fraud investigations.

The Silver Rush, a new 4,159-foot long zip line opening this summer at Heavenly's Epic Discovery, will take users from tree-to-tree at speeds up to 40 miles per hour. Overlooking the Carson Valley, Silver Rush is comprised of five segmented zip lines; the final of which flies guests over the waters of East Peak Lake.

A man with an out of state felony warrant was arrested early Monday morning in the 700 block of South Carson Street, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A low pressure system will move into the region later Sunday that may bring a chance for showers and thunderstorms to Carson City, western Nevada and the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.
