Carson City's Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights: A tradition celebrated among generations
This Friday, Nov. 30, Carson City area residents will once again have the opportunity to see and hear the future as they listen to beloved holidays tunes from the past being sung by today’s fifth graders — our future.
Within the audience, there will be those who once performed the very same songs their children or grandchildren are now performing, evoking memories of days long gone, but not forgotten, for who could forget the thrill of singing on the capitol steps!
As they have for the past 30 years, area fifth graders have been practicing, practicing in their music classes to prepare for a Christmas concert that can only take place in Carson City.
Sure, we know children everywhere sing these tunes during this season, but not on the steps of the Nevada State Capitol. That’s reserved for the over 400 fifth graders of the Carson City School District, Carson City Montessori, Saint Teresa’s, and for the first time this year, Bethlehem Lutheran.
The event begins at 4 p.m. with free sleight rides. The Fifth graders perform at 5:30 p.m. and the lighting of downtown — even more beautiful this year — will be at 6 p.m.
Photos with Santa and the Grinch, cookies, hot chocolate and candy canes in at the Carson Nugget Alatte patio at the end of the concert.
