NHP identifies driver, investigates wrong way fatal crash Sunday near Fernley
The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified an Oroville, Calif., resident who died in a vehicle crash Sunday evening on I-80 east of Fernley.
Sky Thomas, 30, died at the scene of the crash, according to NHP. A second driver was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The crash, involving a wrong-way driver, was reported at 11:34 p.m.
A preliminary investigation shows that a blue 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by Thomas, was wrong-way on IR-80, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes, according to NHP.
A gold 2002 Ford F-350 pickup truck was traveling eastbound in the left lane where it was struck head-on by the Silverado, according to NHP.
The crash is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) as NHP Case No. 201101656.
