Carson City arrests: Two jailed in fight, officer struck in eye attempting to detain suspect

Two were arrested for multiple offenses early Saturday following a fight near a Carson City bar, a sheriff's booking report states.

A 28-year-old Carson City man was booked for suspicion of battery on a protected person, a gross misdemeanor offense, and the following misdemeanor offenses: battery, obstructing and resisting. The other man was taken into custody and booked for battery and obstructing an officer.

According to the arrest report, an officer responded to a bar for a report of a dispute. When the officer arrived on scene and pulled up in front of the bar, they did not observe any issues. The officer then drove East on Telegraph and made a turn onto North Plaza. As the officer made the turn he observed two subjects punch each other with around 3 to 5 subjects crowded around them.

The officer called out his observations over dispatch radio, turned on his body camera and exited his vehicle, ordering the subjects to stop fighting. The two did not comply. The officer observed both men punching each other several times. The officer grabbed one of the men and pulled him away from the other and ordered him to stop fighting. The man whom he pulled away attempted to hit the officer in the face. However, the officer was able to block his arm and stop the strike, the report states.

The officer pulled the man to the ground. The other man did not comply with the order and took off running. While the officer was holding the suspect down, the man punched the officer on his right eye and reached his arm over the officer's head and placed the officer into a head lock.

The officer struck the suspect, who did not comply with commands. A second deputy arrived on scene and the officer was able to escape from the head lock as the man continued to resist. The man was placed into handcuffs.

Officers later found the other subject, which the first officer positively identified as being the second man fighting and then fleeing the scene. Both men were arrested. The 28-year-old man was booked for gross misdemeanor battery on a protected person, battery, obstructing and resisting. Bail: $4,029. Bail amount for the other man wasn't listed.

In other arrests:
— A 35-year-old woman was arrested Friday, Nov. 20, for a felony warrant alleging residential burglary and alleged other offenses.

Cassie Judith Workman was taken into custody at 7:35 p.m. She was also arrested for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia. The burglary warrant was issued Nov. 2, 2020 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $20,000.

— A 51-year-old Carson City man, Antonio Nicola Sclafani, was arrested early Monday for a felony bench warrant out of Sparks. He was also arrested for suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the booking report, a deputy patrolling the area on College Parkway ran a vehicle's license plate and it returned as having suspended registration. The officer conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, who stated he didn't know the registration was suspended as it was a friend's vehicle.

The officer noticed that the vehicle was listed on the registration a belonging to Sclafani, the report states. The officer ran the man's name through dispatch and learned he had a confirmed felony warrant out of Washoe County with a no-bail hold.

He was arrested. During inventory of the vehicle, officers located a pipe with a bulb on the end, consistent with methamphetamine use. Also located was tin foil in the center console of the vehicle that contained suspected methamphetamine.

He's being held without bail for the Washoe County warrant. Bail amount for the other alleged offenses: $3,637.

— A 28-year-old man was arrested Nov. 21, 12:57 a.m. in the area of North Curry and Bath streets for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, no proof of insurance and driving with suspended registration.

According to the arrest report, an officer observed a vehicle that did not have its headlights on and was stopped for 20 to 30 seconds at a stop sign.

The officer turned around pursued the vehicle, seeing it hit a curb, correcting itself and then going across an entire lane and nearly hitting another curb. The vehicle did not have tail lights. A traffic stop was made and the officer made contact with the man, who had a smell of alcohol coming from his person.

He was asked if he had been drinking and he replied yes. He agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .267 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. He consented to an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $1,986.

— A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested Nov. 22 for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, the man allegedly poured a beer and dumped a bag of Cheetos on the victim, knocked over a bedroom dresser and broke it with his foot. He also allegedly struck the victim multiple times, pushed her down in a hallway, drug her across the living room, and pulled her hair, the report states.

The officer observed injuries to the woman's left arm, scratches above her elbow and blood on her elbow with hair from her scalp dried on it. She also had scratches and bruising on her right arm and a small laceration with a small amount of blood on her right shoulder, the report states.

As the arresting officer photographed the victim's injuries, the suspect called the woman's cell phone. The officer pressed the speaker button and identified himself to the suspect. The officer asked the suspect if he was willing to speak. The man agreed and returned to the apartment.

The suspect consented to a search for weapons and none were found. The officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the man's person. The suspect said he had "a couple" beers. He said he had been in a verbal argument with the woman and dumped a bag of chips on her. He denied any other physical contact, the report states.

He was asked how the damage in the apartment happened. The man replied he dumped the bag of chips on the couch and said the dresser in the bedroom had fallen over due to a large stockpile of clothing on top of it, the report states. He told the officer he kicked and broke it with his foot after it fell over. He was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.
