Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Man jailed for auto theft, DUI

A 29 year-old Mound House man was arrested Thursday afternoon at 12:10 p.m. in the area of U.S. Highway 50 East and Fairview Drive on felony grand larceny of an automobile and gross misdemeanor second-offense driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

Manual Montes was taken into custody after Sheriff's deputies responded to a call about a stolen vehicle.

According to the arrest report, the reporting party (RP) told Carson City Dispatch that a family member had stolen her white Chevrolet SUV.

The RP reported that she and a witness, another family member, had left to locate the vehicle, which was found along with the suspect, whom they were trying to get to pull over.

The RP was able to get Montes to pull the vehicle over, and she took it back from him.

When deputies arrived on scene, Montes was seated in the witness's vehicle and the RP was inside her SUV that had been stolen.

Montes was detained at that point by while deputies interviewed the parties.

The RP, though, was experiencing medical problems during the interview and had to be transported to the hospital by family, the report said. She did, however, state that she wanted to press charges.

The witness remained on scene, though, and completed the interview. She stated that the suspect, Montes, appeared paranoid when he began asking the RP for the keys to her vehicle. The RP told him no and said he could not take her vehicle.

But Montes took the keys out of the RP's purse and left with her vehicle despite not having permission, the report said.

The witness said that Montes acted paranoid by tearing apart the dashboard because he thought the vehicle had been bugged.

Montes was observed to have red, watery eyes. His pupils were observed to be constricted and his eyelids were droopy, the report said.

Montes consented to a preliminary breath test (PBT), which was negative for any breath-alcohol content (BAC). However, he also consented to standard field sobriety testing (SFST), which showed positive signs of impairment.

Montes admitted to having used cocaine and consuming alcohol the night before. A records check through Carson City Dispatch showed a prior DUI in 2015.

He was arrested and transported to the Carson City Jail without incident. Bail: $27,500.

— A 36 year-old Gardnerville man was arrested early Friday morning at 12:28 a.m. at the Carson City Sheriff's Office on charges of misdemeanor second-offense domestic battery after turning himself in to authorities, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

According to the arrest report, a Sheriff's deputy responded to a domestic battery report at a residence on Garson Court.

The victim reported that her ex-husband had entered her residence through an unlocked door, started a verbal fight with her, spit on her and then left.

She told law enforcement that she as in her bedroom when the suspect had entered the residence unannounced through the unlocked door. He then entered her bedroom, closed and locked the door behind him to keep the roommate out, the victim said.

Upon entering the house, the victim said the suspect observed a male leave the residence. The other male was her roommate's boyfriend, the victim said, but the suspect accused her of seeing other men and became agitated.

The suspect yelled at the victim, telling her he "hoped she would f---ing die." He then spit on the victim's right cheek, the report said.

The victim then told the suspect she was calling police, and he immediately left the residence. Besides being spat upon, the victim said the fight never turned physical.

She did not have any residence information on the suspect, but she was able to tell law enforcement where he worked and that he was scheduled to work that evening.

A deputy made contact with a workplace supervisor, who advised the suspect had clocked out early.

A records check through Carson City Dispatch confirmed a prior arrest for domestic battery earlier this year, the report said.

Late Thursday night, dispatch received a call from the suspect who asked to speak with the deputy who had been at his workplace.

The deputy spoke with the suspect, who claimed to have done nothing wrong. He reported he had always been welcome at the residence in the past and had even watched the house while the victim was away. He said he was unaware that he was unwelcome there.

The suspect stated he had knocked on the front door as he entered the residence, meeting the victim and her roommate in the former's bedroom, the report said.

He reported that he had shut the bedroom door once the roommate had left and told the victim he wanted a divorce. He admitted that he did tell the victim to "go f--- herself" before leaving, the report said, but he denied spitting on her.

The deputy informed the suspect that he was arrest able for domestic battery, and if he wasn't arrested that night, then a warrant would be sworn out by the district attorney's office.

Deputies then entered the house and announced their presence, ordering the suspect to come out. He walked out from the hallway, the report said, but would not raise his hands for the officers.

Carson City Firefighter-Paramedics arrived to treat the victim for her head injury.

The victim also stated the suspect had hit her on the back of the head when they returned home and locked her out of the house for a while.

After she was let back into the house, the victim said she went right to bed. Moments later, though, the suspect came into the bedroom, grabbed her and threw her out of bed. The victim stated she hit her head on the wall and that caused her to black out momentarily.
