Judge Jim Wilson will seek re-election for First Judicial District Court
Judge Jim Wilson will seek re-election as judge of the First Judicial District Court of Nevada which covers Carson City and Storey County.
Judge Wilson grew up in Carson City. After he graduated from Carson City High School he worked as a firefighter and smokejumper and attended the University of Nevada, Reno where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
He then pursued his dream to work in law enforcement. He became a Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputy where he worked in the traffic and patrol divisions and served as a member of the SWAT team. He left the Sheriff’s Office to attend McGeorge School of Law.
After law school Judge Wilson moved to Elko to serve as a prosecutor in the Elko County District Attorney’s Office. The next year the people of Elko County elected him to the office of District Attorney. Judge Wilson says of his service as a prosecutor, “that was the most fun I had as a lawyer.”
From Elko Judge Wilson returned home to Carson City and entered private practice serving the people of Northern Nevada. He had managed his own law firm in Carson City for 20 years when the people of Carson City and Storey County elected him to the district court bench.
“Judges have a great opportunity to serve the community — to help resolve disputes involving the most important and personal aspects of people’s lives, families, and businesses," said Judge Wilson. "I strive to treat every person equally and fairly, with patience and respect, and to make prompt decisions based upon the facts and the law.”
