Donate blood, get a Wolf Pack t-shirt and beat UNLV: Drive at UNR, Reno and Carson City
The Wolf Pack community can help the University of Nevada, Reno transform lives by donating blood this Thanksgiving season. The blood drive, brought to campus by the Associated Students of the University of Nevada and Vitalant (formerly United Blood Services), is scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 27. There are four locations, all taking blood on this day; no appointments necessary.
The University is partnering with Vitalant, the nation's second-largest community blood service provider, supplying comprehensive transfusion medicine services for nearly 1,000 hospitals and healthcare partners for patients in need across 40 states.
The campus location will be in the Joe Crowley Student Union, Fourth Floor Ballrooms from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Anyone who donates at any Northern Nevada location on Nov. 27 as part of the Beat UNLV Blood Drive will receive a "I Bleed Silver and Blue" T-shirt.
In addition to the Joe Crowley Student Union location, the other northern Nevada locations include:
— The Carson City Donor Center located, 256 E Winnie Ln, Carson City
— The Reno Donor Center, 1125 Terminal Way, Reno,
— Pinocchio’s Reno, 5995 S Virginia St, Reno,
Visit www.bloodhero.com to check the donation times for these locations. On this website, you can also find the health requirements for donating; basic requirements include, but are not limited to: being of 16 years of age, weighing at least 110 lbs., and feeling healthy on the day of donation.
The Beat UNLV blood drive aims to transform the attitude around friendly competition and the University community during the rivalry season. Last year, the University of Nevada, Reno beat UNLV by only eight pints of blood.
“During the holidays is when our hospitals and doctors need blood the most. And it’s when, across the nation, they receive the least amount of donations," Nicole Flangas, Vice President of the Associated Students of the University of Nevada, said. "When you donate during this blood drive, not only do you support the Nevada community as we compete with UNLV, but you also support our local community and literally aid in the campaign to save lives.”
The University and UNLV will each tally donations they have received at their respective colleges since the challenge began in November 2018. The winning college will be awarded a plaque at the Wolf Pack vs. Rebels football game scheduled in Reno Saturday, Nov. 30.
To schedule a donation appointment at any time, visit www.bloodhero.com and search by date. Walk-ins are also welcome.
