Terrorism drill exercise 'Silver Crucible 2019' underway statewide, including Carson City
A three-day statewide public safety exercise, called Operation Silver Crucible 2019, began Tuesday and continues through Thursday around Nevada, including Carson City.
The exercises are aimed to prepare agencies for the potential of a terrorist attack. The exercises are led by the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Division of Emergency Management and Office of Homeland Security, said Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Kim Smith.
These exercises are conducted regularly with local, tribal, state and federal partners to ensure that Nevada continues to be prepared for emergency situations, said Smith.
In Carson City, all city departments, along with the sheriff's office and the fire department, are participating. The city's Emergency Operation Center is operating as part of the exercise.
Over three days, Carson City and agencies statewide are participating in scenario-based exercises that involve physically deploying resources based on intelligence gathering, responding to events and coordinating resources and information from local, tribal, state and federal participants, said Smith.
Various scenario exercises are being conducted in Carson City and Reno, with support from Douglas County and Lyon County, along with similar exercises conducted in southern Nevada.
Some of those include exercises over Carson City's airspace. Resources will be deployed to North Carson City in support of public works and critical infrastructure, said Smith.
