Nevada Day Parade Awards Announced and, no surprise, Cecil the Serpent takes best overall
One of the many challenges the Nevada Day Committee faces is judging the parade entries, as far as who is the best in which group or category, along with Overall, President, Parade Director, and People’s Choice Awards.
The reason for the difficulty is simple: every parade entry brings their own unique style of artistic expression when it comes to portraying whatever they are truly passionate about, and therefore how do you judge one over the other?
Whether that passion is their business, organization, trade, profession, belief, culture, or way of life, to choose one as a winner is to imply that there was a loser, and that is truly not the case.
This was the reason the Nevada Day Committee decided years ago to give each and every Parade Entry a Certificate of Participation, because in our eyes you are all winners.
Over a third of the Parade Entrants do not care to be judged. This includes many of the School Marching Bands, feeling that this will make it more of a competition, therefore putting pressure on the kids. The main focus is for them to just have fun representing their school in the parade, and wait for an official Band Marching Competition where they can then compete with other schools.
With all that being said, we do like to give a little extra recognition to a few that did stand out a bit more than the others for one reason or another. To accomplish this difficult feat, the Nevada Day Committee relies on the President, Parade Director, and Parade Marshals, along with numerous other volunteers, to assist them.
When it comes to People’s Choice and Best Overall, polls are conducted on Social Media, where as you can see, sometimes a tie can occur.
Hopefully this has shed a little light on our parade award-giving process. We would again like to thank all of our parade participants, sponsors, volunteers, and everyone that joined us for our state's annual historic birthday celebration, and we hope to see you all next year!
Sincerely,
The Nevada Day Committee
