Carson City arrests: Burglary suspect hides in bathroom, gets locked inside business

A 28-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for suspicion of burglary after allegedly hiding in a sports bar restroom after it had closed and then attempting to take items and leave but couldn't get through the locked door, a sheriff's deputy report states.

Brittany Marie Bitetto was taken into custody at 2:17 a.m. on Oct. 22 at the business, located in the 3500 block of North Carson Street.

According to the arrest report, a deputy responded to the business at 1:18 a.m. for an intrusion alarm. A deputy began to check the exterior of the business and saw a person walking within the business. The deputy made contact through the glass.

The female walked to the door and stated she was an employee and held up some keys. The deputy asked the woman to open the door to speak. The female stated she was not a current employee but was a previous employee and had permission to be inside the building, the arrest report states.

The woman then stated she was locked inside while going to the bathroom. She identified herself with a first name and refused to give the deputy any information. Carson City dispatch requested that a person who is responsible for the business, also known as a "reasonable party" to come to the location, the report states.

Once the person arrived and identified themselves as a manager, they provided keys to the business. The suspect was removed from the business and detained pending an investigation.

The officer spoke with the manager who stated she would check surveillance from inside the business. Both the deputy and manager reviewed the surveillance and found the suspect stayed in the bathroom until approximately 1:10 a.m. after employees had closed and left.

She was seen coming out of the bathroom and then walked to the cash register and appeared to grab several items and placed them into her pocket. She then walked to the front door and attempted to leave but appeared to realize that in order to leave she needed a key. It was at this time that the deputy arrived on scene and began to speak with the suspect through the window, the report states.

The manager contacted the closing employee who stated she left $3 and a note for an after-hours sale on the register. The suspect was taken into custody and searched. Officers located the $3 with the note for the after-hours sale. The deputy also located several rolls of quarters, which the manager stated belonged to the business.

As of Nov. 5, the suspect remained in jail awaiting a hearing. Bail: $25,000.

In other arrests:
— A 39-year-old Carson City woman, Tiffany Marie Williams, was booked Tuesday for a warrant alleging felony burglary, issued Oct. 11, 2019 out of East Fork Township Justice Court. Bail: $25,000.

— A 59-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday in the area of East Fifth and Harbin streets for suspicion of DUI and failure to maintain a lane of traffic, both misdemeanor offenses.

According to the arrest report, deputies were contacted regarding an intoxicated subject that had left a casino on east William Street. An officer located the suspect vehicle, followed it and observed the driver failing to maintain his lane of travel and drifted into a southbound turn lane, nearly striking another motorist.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop and spoke with the man who had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person and had red watery eyes and slurred speech. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking. The man replied he had been and said he had three vodka drinks earlier. He agreed to standardized field sobriety tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .235 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. He voluntarily agreed to an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $1,269.

— A 47-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 10:01 p.m. for a misdemeanor violation of suspended sentence warrant, issued April 30, 2019. Bail: $1,000.
