Carson City arrests: Man known as 'Mr. Nice Guy' booked for alleged marijuana sales to minors

A 36-year-old man was arrested Saturday for multiple alleged felony drug offenses including selling a controlled substance in the presence of a child, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Kevin Patrick Mullen of Minden was taken into custody at 1:58 p.m. following an investigation. He was also booked for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance intended for sales, gross misdemeanor destruction of evidence and misdemeanor contributing the delinquency of a minor.

According to the booking report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were alerted to a planned drug sale involving two juveniles at a Highway 50 East gas station involving a man known as "Mr. Nice Guy" who drove a newer white Ford Explorer with Utah plates.

The juveniles did not know the man's name other than "Mr. Nice Guy." Through the course of the investigation it was learned the juveniles who officers spoke with coordinated their drug sales with the suspect via social media, according to the booking report.

Deputies located the suspect vehicle and did a vehicle stop based on information they collected in the investigation. Officers spoke with the suspect and observed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from his vehicle, the report states.

The suspect became abrasive with deputies. He stated his vehicle, a rental, smelled of marijuana because he was smoking marijuana approximately four hours earlier, the report states.

Deputies permitted the man to access to his cell phone. The man made a call to a relative informing them of his arrest even though, deputies noted in the report, he had not yet been formally arrested at the time. Deputies later learned after seizing his cell phone that the phone had been reset to factory settings, thus wiping its memory content, the report states.

A CCSO deputy with a canine arrived and conducted a free-air sniff of the suspect vehicle. The canine alerted positive on the suspect vehicle. Probable cause was determined based off the positive canine sniff, the report states.

Deputies searched the vehicle and Mullen's person. Deputies discovered a large plastic box containing multiple marijuana packages, marijuana THC products and mushrooms. The items were packaged according to product and weight, indicating sales distribution. A deputy removed a large amount of cash from the man's front pants pocket.

Deputies placed the man under arrest and taken to jail. Deputies remaining on-scene facilitated in locating the drug evidence (marijuana, mushrooms and marijuana THC products) and then had the vehicle towed. Also booked into evidence was $340 cash found on his person, two cell phones, one them discovered inside the vehicle. Bail: $25,000.

In other arrests:

— A 46-year-old Reno woman, Sarah Valley, was arrested early Monday morning for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the booking report, a CCSO deputy conducted a traffic stop at around 12:48 a.m. on a vehicle after observing the vehicle's license plate light was not illuminated.

The officer spoke with the driver who identified herself and passenger. She told deputies she was driving to get home to her teenage children and then told deputies she was driving to a casino on Highway 50 East. A K9 did a free-air sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive. When deputies advised they had probable cause to search the vehicle, the woman started to dispute the search and became angry saying "you can't search my car." She continued to protest during the search, the report states.

During the search officers located a zip lock bag with 5.1 grams of suspected methamphetamine, another bag with approximately .6 grams of suspected methamphetamine and three other small bags with white powder residue lining the inside, the report states.

Also located in a eyeglass case was a glass pipe and circular bulb, consistent with methamphetamine use. Also found was a brown box disguised as a book, which contained several other articles of methamphetamine paraphernalia. Items included a spiral stem glass meth pipe, a broken meth pipe with residue, a pen converted to a "tooter" straw, a red "tooter" straw, two 9mm shell casings that had white residue, a black scale with meth residue, and a razor blade with residue and two other empty ziplock bags with two mini spoons with white residue. Based on the narcotics and paraphernalia found, she was arrested. Bail: $5,000.

— A 36-year-old Minden woman was arrested Friday, 11:23 p.m. for suspicion of domestic battery. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to a casino in reference to a domestic battery. Deputies spoke with the male victim who advised he was hit in the back by his girlfriend during an argument. A deputy arriving on scene observed the woman hit the man on the back. She was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.

— A 34-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday for suspicion of disorderly conduct. Bail: $150.

— A 42-year-old woman was arrested Sunday, 8:25 p.m. for two misdemeanor warrants issued Oct. 13 2020 and Oct. 27, 2020 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,250.
