Several residents were concerned Vice President Mike Pence's visit to Carson City on parade day, where he plans to rally support for Senator Dean Heller and Attorney General Adam Laxalt, would disrupt Nevada Day scheduled events, but Sheriff Kenny Furlong said that isn't the case.
"It's Nevada Day as usual," said Furlong. "The parade will run as smooth as it does every year. The rally will be away from downtown and after the parade."
According to the Associated Press and the Reno Gazette Journal, the rally with Vice President Pence in Carson City will follow the Nevada Day parade and other activities commemorating Nevada's admission to statehood in 1864.
The Vice President was in Carson City Aug. 1. 2016 at the Carson Nugget on the campaign trail as the then vice presidential candidate for President Trump. In August 2017 Vice President Pence was to headline the annual Basque Fry in Carson Valley but canceled due to Hurricane Harvey.
The rally comes halfway through a two-week early voting period where more than half of all voters are expected to cast ballots.
