Emergency crews respond to fire at Carson City landfill
UPDATE 6:30PM: The fire appears to be under control. A Carson City Fire Department battalion chief has begun to let engines return to quarters.

The Carson City Fire Department was called early Thursday evening for a fire with smoke and flames visible at the landfill off of Highway 50 East.
The call went out at 5:25 p.m. regarding black smoke and flames visible coming from the dump area. The nearby Carson City Rifle Range was evacuated.
Multiple fire engines were called out and are responding. No structures or homes are threatened at this time.
This latest fire in the landfill is among more than a dozen reported over the past couple of years in which Carson City Department has responded. It is unknown if landfill operators have put in mitigation measures to control the volume of spontaneous fires in which the city has repeatedly responded.
