'Many Faces of Native America' art show featured at WNC's Carson City campus

UPDATE 9:30PM: A fire that started in the kitchen area of a Rawhide Way residence and spread into the attic was quickly knocked down Tuesday night, said Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Tom Raw.
It started as a cooking fire and went into the exhaust system, extending into the attic, he said. It was knocked down within 15 minutes upon arrival.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in attempting to locate a runaway juvenile. Engel Mulhauser, aka Harley, 16, was last seen Sunday, June 11 at her residence in Carson City.

A 62-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday in the 1500 block of Old Hot Springs Road for a burglary warrant issued in May 2014 out of Clark County, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Each summer since 2003, the historic Comstock community of Silver City has offered free, public programming in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM). Hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers, artists, craftsmen and cultural enthusiasts will converge on Carson City this Friday through Sunday for the annual Stewart Father’s Day Powwow.

The Carson City Visitors Bureau is one 75 nonprofit organizations selected to receive the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read Grant, a literary grant challenging communities to create month-long programming around the themes of selected novels.

What began 12 years ago as a music celebration in the back parking lot at Cafe at Adele’s has now grown past the confines of John Street — adjacent to the restaurant — and moves this year to Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

UPDATE MONDAY 5:40AM: A late spring storm blasted the Sierra with snow this morning, forcing chain or snow tire requirements over Highway 50 Spooner, State Route 207 over Kingsbury Grade, State Route 431 over Mt. Rose Highway and I-80 over Donner Pass. Go here for an update on area road conditions related to the storm. The National Weather Service forecast calls for the skies to be clearing by tonight with a gradual warming trend this week.
