Carson City man jailed for allegedly having stolen bicycle, heroin and paraphernalia
A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of possession of a stolen bicycle among other alleged offenses, a sheriff's booking report states.
Jaime John Portillo was arrested in the 3000 block of North Roop Street at 5:17 p.m. He was also booked for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the arrest report, a female called to dispatch and stated her neighbor's bicycle, which had been stolen Oct. 17 in Douglas County, was in possession of a male at a convenience store.
A deputy made contact with the suspect who stated he bought the bike from a man for $60 near Bodine's Casino. While interviewing the suspect, the officer observed an unknown object near his right front shirt pocket, the report states.
For safety reasons, the officer conducted a pat down search and when doing so, Portillo advised he had a "rig" in his pocket. A "rig" is a commonly used street term to describe a needle, spoon and other items used to inject drugs intravenously.
The officer asked the man if he could search his pockets. The man agreed, where the officer located a hypodermic device in his front left pant pocket. He stated he broke off the needle portion of the device. The deputy also located a white straw type item that contained a brown tar substance. The man told the officer it was heroin. He stated he mixes water with the heroin, liquifies it and snorts the substance, the report states.
The owner of the bicycle provided dispatch with identifying characters on the bike including a jalapeño on the front handlebars. Upon arrival, the owner identified the bike as his and stated it was valued at $1,250.
Portillo was taken into custody for suspicion of possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, both felonies, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $10,000.
