Carson City crime log: Arrests made for provoking assault, drugs and DUI

A 41-year-old transient was arrested Sunday in the area of Caroline and Valley for suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, a deputy was dispatched at around 5 p.m. to a casino in the 500 block of North Carson Street. Dispatch advised a person wearing jeans and a red hoodie was walking north on Valley Street near the area of Caroline Street and had been engaged in opening car doors and looking through the contents.

The deputy made contact with the man, Michael Daniel Harbour, who presented an Arkansas identification card. He was asked if he had anything illegal in his possession. The man replied he had methamphetamine in his pocket.

The officer asked if he could retrieve it and then removed a spoon with a white powdery substance on it which was covered by a small plastic bag and green and white Altoids mint container that contained and was confirmed positive for methamphetamine.

The man was arrested. He is also on Alternative Sentencing for domestic battery and was booked for being in violation of a suspended sentence. Bail: $5,500.

In other arrests:
— An inmate at Carson City jail, Corey Owens, was booked for a felony failure to appear warrant issued June 6, 2018 out of Sparks Justice Court. The warrant carries a bail amount of $3,500.

— A 26-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 2:57 a.m. in the area of North Stewart and Proctor streets for suspicion of gross misdemeanor DUI second, driving with a revoked license for DUI, violation of a suspended sentence and a turning violation.

According to the arrest report, a deputy initiated a traffic stop after observing an SUV driving over a white limit line several times, and then observing the driver perform an incorrect turn at an intersection.

The driver identified herself and the officer observed her eyes were glossy. The officer asked if she had been drinking. The woman said she had not. While speaking to the woman, the officer observed a number of empty beer cans through the passenger area of the vehicle along with an empty beer can in the cup holder.

Dispatch advised the woman had a revoked license from a prior DUI arrest in October 2017. Dispatch also advised that among the conditions the woman had through the Department of Alternative Sentencing was not to consume alcohol.

The woman agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. She provided a preliminary breath test of .220 and was arrested. At jail she provided an evidentiary blood draw. Bail: $4,724.

— A 61-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 10:42 p.m. in the 400 block of East William Street for misdemeanor suspicion of disorderly conduct and obstructing.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a restaurant in the area for a report of a man sleeping on the sidewalk. When deputies arrived they observed the man sleeping on the east side of the restaurant.

A deputy asked the man for identification. The man retrieved his wallet and was unable to provide identification. The man was asked to provide his full name and date of birth. The man would not give the officer the information as requested. Due to the man refusing to identify himself, he was arrested for disorderly conduct and obstruction. Bail: $654.

— A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 6:06 p.m. in the 3400 block of Woodside Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of provoking assault, a sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area for a report of a neighbor disputed. Officers arrived and were advised the suspect was attempting to start a fight with patrons at a party.

Deputies spoke with the reporting party who identified the man as attempting to start the fight. While speaking with the reporting party, deputies heard the man yelling from his apartment, saying “you called the cops, I will beat your f**king face in,” the arrest report states.

A deputy went over to the apartment and spoke with the man and could smell an overwhelming odor of alcohol coming from his breath. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking and the man replied: “I have been drinking vodka.” The man agreed to a preliminary breath tests and provided a partial breath sample with result of .172. He was arrested and taken to jail. Bail: $637.
