Carson City arrests: Two jailed for possession of meth
Two were arrested Tuesday for alleged felony possession of a controlled substance and other offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Thomas Diaz, 54, and James Kulcsar, 55, were taken into custody at 2:31 p.m. following a traffic stop and investigation near North Roop Street and Hot Springs Road. Diaz was also booked for misdemeanor driving on a suspended license and careless driving offenses. Kulcsar was also booked for felony parole and probation violation.
According to the arrest report, deputies received information that Diaz was the driver of a pickup in which he did not possess a valid driver's license. He currently has a suspended license for failing to appear in 2018.
As a deputy attempted to do a traffic stop the pickup turned into a parking space, sideswiping another parked vehicle causing a crash, according to the report.
As a deputy began an investigation he noticed that the passenger, Kulcsar, was exhibiting signs of being under the influence of methamphetamine. His movement was rigid and spontaneous, the report states.
While a deputy was conducting a records check and crash report, another deputy had both subjects exit the vehicle. While performing a consensual search on Kulcsar, he admitted to using methamphetamine recently. He also provided consent to search the truck as he is the lease holder of the truck, the report states.
A K9 did a free air sniff of the truck and alerted positive. During a search of the vehicle deputies located a black cloth bag between the passenger seat and center console. Inside the bag was a clear crystal substance of suspected methamphetamine and a second bag also containing suspected methamphetamine. Tests on the substances showed presumptive positive for meth, the report states.
Both men were read their Miranda warning and both stated they understood their rights. Both stated the "meth" did not belong to them. Both admitted to using "meth" recently and both were within arms reach of the substance, the report states. They were arrested. Bail for Diaz, $3,379. Bail for Kulcsar, $2,500 and a no bail hold for the parole and probation violation.
