Carson City public safety agencies to hold 'active shooter response' drill at courthouse
On Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, the Carson City Fire Department, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Department of Alternative Sentencing, and Juvenile Services is conducting an “Active Shooter Response” training at the Carson City Courthouse on Musser Street. The one-day training event will focus on response to an active shooter incident using a unified approach.
The First Judicial District Court, Carson City Justice, Municipal Court, the District Attorney, Clerk/Recorder, and multiple Fire and Law Enforcement agencies from area jurisdiction will be participating in this exercise.
The training is intended to integrate personnel from various agencies in Carson City and neighboring jurisdictions to an actual active shooter or other critical incident to be better prepared. Additionally, this exercise will allow courthouse officers and clerical employees to test their training and safety procedures.
This training will be held privately, but media representatives will be encouraged to attend the training with pre-arrangement.
Citizens play a critical role in creating a safe environment by observing the reporting any suspicious and criminal activity to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office recommends that citizens do not participate in any direct verbal or physical involvement with suspicious person or those who are committing crimes. The personal safety of the community is paramount.
The public is encouraged to avoid the area to allow this simulated active assailant exercise to test the skills and capabilities of emergency medical and law enforcement response.
