Carson City man arrested on felony child abuse, domestic battery charges
A 34-year-old Carson City man was jailed Saturday on suspicion of felony child abuse, domestic battery and three gross misdemeanor counts of child endangerment, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Joshua Michel Summerfield is being held on $63,314 bail. He was arrested in Lyon County and transported back to Carson City where he was booked. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the 1700 block of Rock Court at 8:19 p.m. on a report of a suspicious circumstance, where a reporting witness called dispatch after a woman was heard screaming that a man was beating her child.
Officers made contact at the residence and observed Summerfield pull out of the garage with small children inside the vehicle. He left at a high rate of speed. Officers observed the vehicle did not stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Rock Court and Gordon Ave., turning eastbound. The officer lost sight of the vehicle, but was able to get the license plate number to dispatch.
Officers met with the victims and observed a child had an eye injury, that resembled a “shiner” on the left side of his face around his left eye and a bloody lip, the arrest report states. Officers spoke with the boy and photographed the injuries and then spoke with the woman and asked her what had happened.
She said Summerfield, her husband, had struck her several times in the face, and burned her legs with a lighter. Officers observed several injuries to the woman’s face and neck, some in various stages of healing and a head abrasion that appeared fresh.
Summerfield was located in Dayton by Lyon County law enforcement. Officers were sent there to transport him back to Carson City. He faces the following charges: Child abuse and domestic battery, both felonies, three counts gross misdemeanor child endangerment, driving without a valid license and reckless driving.
