Carson City sheriff's deputies make weekend arrests for DUI, drugs and battery

A 53-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of DUI second offense and open container, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Deputies were called to the 4700 block of Cochise regarding a man sleeping in his vehicle with the engine running. Officers on scene observed the man sleeping in his vehicle with the ignition on and further observed the vehicle was occupying two parking spaces.

A deputy knocked on the window to wake him. The man stepped out of the vehicle where the deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath and bloodshot eyes.

The deputy asked the man if he had anything to drink. He confirmed he did but didn't want to say what he had or where he was coming from. Deputies observed two open bottles of vodka in hands reach in the vehicle.

The man refused both the field sobriety tests and breath test. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI and transferred to jail where he agreed to submit an evidentiary blood test. Bail: $2,829.

In other arrests:
— A 39-year-old Virginia City man was arrested for suspicion of misdemeanor defrauding an innkeeper. According to the booking report, the man did not pay his cab fare of $14.57. After posting bail he was arrested again early Monday morning for misuse of dialing 911, a gross misdemeanor offense. He allegedly made calls to 911 from a hotel on Hospitality Way reporting fraud. He called three times and then called and hung up. The man reportedly had done the same thing, 13 hours after being released from jail earlier. Bail: $2,637.

— A 37-year-old Reno man was arrested Sunday for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and failure to maintain a lane. According to the booking report, a reporting party advised a motorist was driving northbound in Douglas County into Carson City and was failing to maintain a lane.

A CCSO sergeant made a stop on the suspect vehicle after observing the driver of the vehicle failing to maintain the travel lane, crossing over the fog line on I-580 between College Parkway and Arrowhead ramps, the report states.

The witness advised the suspect vehicle was driving slower than the posted speed and failed to maintain the travel lane. The witness advised he followed the vehicle from Minden to Carson City.

The officer observed the driver had red, watery eyes and an odor of alcohol coming from his person. The man admitted to consuming one alcoholic beverage that evening. He submitted to three field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He agreed to a preliminary breath test and provided a PBT sample above .08, the report states. He was arrested. Bail: $1,244.

— A 42-year-old man, Milton Gomez, was arrested Friday for suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor disturbing the peace and resisting a public officer.

According to the booking report, deputies were called to a restaurant for a man causing a disturbance and refusing to leave. Officers arrived and located the man on the sidewalk. The man yelled obscenities and took off running southbound on Carson Street. He was given several orders to stop and he refused to listen to orders. Officers were able to take him into custody. At jail deputies located a clear bag in his pocket that contained suspected methamphetamine. Bail: $3,829.

— A 26-year-old Carson City woman, Kaitlyn Lauren Jimmy, was arrested Friday for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant. Bail: $3,637 and a no-bail hold in lieu of a hearing for the warrant.

— A Carson City man was arrested Friday, 4:33 p.m. for battery following a fight outside a bar on East Telegraph Street. Bail: $1,137.

— A 66-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of violation of a temporary protection order for stalking and harassment, a gross misdemeanor offense. Bail: $2,500.

On Friday, June 28, the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team conducted a traffic stop that yielded more than 11 pounds of fentanyl.

Inyo National Forest will be in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions starting Monday, July 1 to protect natural resources and provide for public safety.

Last week at the Board of County Commissioners meeting the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) presented on the speed reduction project in the Mound House area of Lyon County. NDOT will reduce the speed limit to 35 MPH (Please see attached photographs of that presentation)
