Carson City Senior Center host Medicare 101 class and Open Enrollment Fair
As Carson City seniors prepare for Medicare Open Enrollment, many need information about coverage, plans, and options to make the best, informed decision.
Each year from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, Medicare-eligible seniors can join, switch, or drop a plan. A new event proposed by the Carson City Senior Center Advisory Council, aims to educate seniors by offering a Medicare 101 class to cover the basics about Medicare and parts A, B, C & D followed by a Provider Fair with local Medicare Advantage and Supplemental Medicare providers on-site to answer questions about their specific plans.
Medicare 101 will be taught by Access to Healthcare Medicare Assistance Program (MAP) who provides free, unbiased Medicare information and counseling to Northern Nevadans. Providers attending include Aetna, Hometown Health – Senior Care Plus, Saint Mary’s Health Plans – Atrio, plus more joining soon. Attendees can also schedule future appointments with MAP for free counseling and plan changes.
The event is on Friday, Oct. 14 at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Medicare 101 will be at 10am to 11am in the Joshua Tree room (east end of the building) and the Provider Fair from 10:30am to 1:00pm in the main lobby and lunchroom.
Lunch will be served for seniors 60 and over (BBQ Chicken Sandwich) with a suggested donation of $2.25 from 11am to 12:30pm. Attendees will receive a free raffle ticket to win door prizes. Winning tickets will be drawn at the conclusion of the event (need not be present to win).
For additional information or questions, please call the Carson City Senior Center at (775) 883-0703. RSVPs for the event are not required.
