Weekend storm systems help firefighters with King Fire containment
UPDATE: Weather systems moving through the region have helped to further contain the King Fire burning east of Pollock Pines in El Dorado County, Calif.
As of Sunday afternoon the human-caused fire had burned around 97,100 acres and was 87percent contained, according to the latest from Cal Fire. There are 5,863 personnel on the fire, down from more than 8,000 during its peak. The fire, that started Saturday, Sept. 13, has been one of the costliest to fight in California history, amounting to $71 million thus far. It has burned 12 homes and 68 other structures.
Because of weather systems moving through the Sierra, Northern Nevada and with continued containment, smoke from the fire has considerably tapered off. The low pressure system from this weekend is expected to move out of the Carson City region by Sunday night with a warming trend beginning Monday through the remainder of the week.
