Carson City arrests: Pair accused of stealing purse, using credit cards at multiple stores
Two California women were arrested Tuesday for multiple counts of alleged grand larceny, commercial burglary, conspiracy to obtain money using stolen credit cards and other offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Darrian Deajurrey Williams, 29, of San Leandro Calif., and Aubrianna Thompkins, 26, of Tracy, Calif., were arrested after attempting to flee a south Carson grocery store when approached by Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies investigating a scheme involving purchasing gift cards using stolen credit cards at multiple locations around town.
Each were booked for suspicion of felony grand larceny, two counts commercial burglary, obtaining possession of credit cards as stolen property to buy or receive property, multiple gross misdemeanor counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, and obtain money by false pretenses, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, among other offenses.
According to the booking report, deputies responded at 10:17 a.m. to a report of a purse stolen from a shopping cart at Smith's grocery store. A description of the suspects was given. While investigating, the victim was advised by Office Depot in Carson City that her credit card was being used. The Office Depot employee showed a screen shot of surveillance video showing at least one of the suspects.
Deputies drove to Office Depot to canvas the area for the suspects. An employee at the register stated they saw the suspects come into the store, and bought several hundred dollars in gift cards. Deputies continued investigating and were able to get video footage from the store. CCSO learned that other stores, including CVS and Raleys, reported the same suspects, who matched the description, attempting to buy gift cards with stolen credit cards.
Meanwhile, an employee at Save Mart South contacted Carson City dispatch and advised two females matching the description of the suspects were attempting to buy several hundred dollars in gift cards.
Deputies entered the store, where the suspects were located. The deputies attempted to place both women in custody, but the two resisted arrest, and attempted to runaway from officers in the store. One of the suspects was given multiple commands to stop resisting, and would not comply and was tasered. Both were taken into custody.
During the investigation, officers confirmed footage of both suspects at Smiths and Office Depot making a purchase for gift cards, CVS with confirmed purchase of $1,000, Raley's with an attempt to buy gift cards for $430 and Save Mart with an attempt to buy $500 worth of gift cards.
Both women are believed to be connected to three other cases earlier this year where purses were stolen and credit cards were used. Bail: $20,000 each.
