Carson City area weather: Potential for first overnight frost, warming trend through weekend
It may not feel like frost is in the air after a day of sunshine and a few clouds around the Carson City region, however the National Weather Service advises there's a potential for frosty conditions late Thursday night into early Friday morning.
Even though we are a few days from the first day of fall, cool autumn weather has settled over the region, with a chance to see a deep temperatures drop overnight Thursday as skies begin to clear out.
Will it reach the freezing level in Carson City? Probably not. The forecast temperatures are in the mid to upper 30s. Hardly a "hard freeze" concern, though there is a potential for frost if temperatures should dip a few degrees lower. It is possible.
Typical colder valleys in the Sierra will drop to below freezing late Thursday into early Friday morning, while some rural and outlying valleys in western Nevada and northeast California will see temperatures near freezing and producing areas of frost, NWS forecasters say.
The weather service advises that folks who have any frost sensitive plants to consider bringing them inside or covering them up Thursday night. Forecasters also advise to watch for patchy slick conditions on frost covered roads and sidewalks.
A warming trend and sunshine is expected Friday through this weekend.
