Nevada Humane Society hosts annual Duck Race Festival this Saturday at Bartley Ranch park
Thousands of rubber ducks will take a float down the Truckee River this Saturday as the Nevada Humane Society hosts its annual Duck Race Festival at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno.
The family-friendly festival, which runs from 4 to 9 p.m., promises to deliver a fun and free way to support pet adoptions run through the agency, which has branches in Carson City and Reno, as well as a way to meet some of its adoptable shelter pets.
The Duck Race Festival will have games, prizes, limited-edition Nevada Humane Society shirts and stickers, vendors, a beer garden, food trucks, a photo booth and more, plus the chance to win the grand prize, a choice between a brand new 2021 Toyota CH-R Hatchback OR $10,000, generously donated by Carson City Toyota. Go here for a list of other prizes available to winners.
For every duck purchased between now and the Sept. 18 Duck Race, Petco Love will donate an additional $5 directly to Nevada Humane Society to help its shelter pets.
The Nevada Humane Society's goal is to sell 50,000 ducks. As of Sept. 15, 44,000 ducks have so far been sold. NHS notes the fundraiser is the only one of its kind this year, so it is encouraging the community to help its pet shelters by purchasing ducks and joining in on the fun at Bartley Ranch.
The event will end in the evening with the announcement of the duck race winners, plus there will be a movie and popcorn at the amphitheater. See the website here to adopt a duck and other race day information.
The Duck Race Festival provides Nevada Humane Society with essential funding that ensures it can continue its life-saving work to care, and provide homes, for Northern Nevada pets in need. Nevada Humane Society is a non-profit organization that is entirely reliant on donations, community support and grant funding and is the only open-admission, no-kill shelter in Nevada, meaning it takes in any animals regardless of age, illness or past trauma.
Bartley Ranch is located at 6000 Bartley Ranch Road, Reno. Go here to view a map.
