NHP investigates crash Saturday in Churchill County that killed California resident
The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a California resident who died in a Sept. 4 vehicle incident involving a commercial vehicle on I-80 in Churchill County near Jessup.
NHP says Sae Kim, a 40-year-old California resident, died at the scene after being struck by a vehicle shortly after having exited their vehicle. On Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to the crash on Interstate 80 at mile marker 78.
A preliminary investigation shows that a black 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander was traveling eastbound on I-80 at mile marker 78. For unknown reasons, the Mitsubishi left the roadway to the right and overturned. The driver exited the vehicle and walked up to I-80, according to the report.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the Mitsubishi walked into the eastbound number two travel lane. A white 2021 Freightliner tractor trailer was traveling eastbound on IR-80 at mile marker 78. The front of the tractor struck the driver of the Mitsubishi, according to the preliminary investigation.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, Sae Kim, a 40-year-old California resident, was declared deceased on scene.
