C Hill has been restored thanks to Carson High students and volunteers
Over sixty volunteers showed up early Saturday morning to help Gabe Crossman, a 17-year-old senior at Carson High School and member of Troop 45, restore the “C” on C-Hill for his Eagle Scout and Senior Projects.
Crossman and volunteers Kevin Olson and Steve Miner drove supplies and tools up with ATVs at 6:30am to prepare for the project. Then Crossman and Tyler Kerver, ranger with the Carson City Open Space Department, met with the over 40 volunteers who had gathered at the trailhead on McKay Drive at 7:00am. Crossman instructed the volunteers on safety measures and the phases of the project, and then he and Kerver led the volunteers up the steep, nearly mile long hike up to the “C.”
Volunteers included members of Troop 45, scouts from other troops, Carson High School students, and community members, including several families.
The volunteers pulled weeds and removed brush, trash and other debris in and around the “C.” They formed human chains to reposition the rocks back into the shape of the “C.”
With so many helping hands, the project was completed in approximately three hours, which was more quickly than Crossman had anticipated. Crossman would like to thank all those who assisted in this project.
He would also like to thank John Costello, Carson City Open Space ranger, for mentoring him through the project plan, and Pete Sinnott, his cross country coach and owner of the landscaping business Western Environment Inc., who loaned three weed trimmers to the project.
