Douglas County Community and Senior Center Returns to Normal Activities with Some Limitations
The Douglas County Community and Senior Center remains an active Evacuation Center for residents of Douglas County and Alpine County and is being operated by Douglas County Emergency Management and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) for Douglas County and Alpine County evacuees affected by the Caldor Fire. Due to this, the facility will remain closed to the public through the Labor Day weekend.
Effective Tuesday, September 7, 2021, senior lunch (service of hot meals) will resume as usual at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center (DCCSC), South and North County programs. Drive Through Meal Pickup will no longer be available at any of these locations.
Also, Effective Tuesday, September 7, 2021 the Douglas County Community and Senior Center (DCCSC) Gymnasium and Fitness Facilities will reopen for normal drop in and member use from 6:00am-7:00pm Monday -Friday and 8:00am-4:00pm on Saturdays.
As the Center remains an evacuation center, classroom use is still limited based on availability. After evaluating the circumstances and needs of evacuees on Tuesday, some classes will resume as early as Wednesday, September 8, 2021. Classes may be limited or relocated to different rooms and are subject to change based on evacuation needs.
Kahle Community Center will remain closed at least until the Douglas County evacuation orders have been lifted and a reopening date will be announced once programs and facility use can resume.
While Douglas County Animal Services are still assisting evacuees and their pets and animals at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, all Douglas County Dog Licenses will be processed at the DCCSC, located at 1329 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.
We are excited to welcome our facility users back to the DCCSC and appreciate the support of our community as we have done our best to assist those displaced by the Caldor Fire.
