Firefighters in Douglas County were called Wednesday afternoon to a fire in Jacks Valley across from the elementary school near the water tower apparently touched off by a lightning strike.
The incident happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. A brush unit from Carson City has also been called to respond as well. Multiple fire engines have been requested from around the area.
A battalion chief on scene report the fire is above the elementary school, with a rapid rate of spread. Firefighters were attempting to get a line around the fire and work it from multiple flanks. It is unclear at this time how many structures are threatened.
However that could change soon as the fire was reportedly spreading quickly. A search and rescue team has been established to begin evacuations if necessary in the Clear Creek area.
Traffic into Jacks Valley has been halted. Motorists are told to avoid the area to allow for firetrucks to get through.
