Evacuation orders in place for Kingsbury, additional Nevada areas in South Lake Tahoe

With several summer fires roaring through our region and air quality levels reaching a “moderate” to “unhealthy” smoke level, it’s important to be mindful of our surroundings and make small adjustments to our daily routine to stay safe.

Carson City District Attorney Jason Woodbury announced Monday that a sheriff’s deputy acted in self-defense in the 2015 shooting of a domestic violence suspect. Deputy Carl Howell and Jonathon Pope were both killed when they exchanged gunfire at Pope’s residence in Carson City in the early morning hours of August 15, 2015.

The National Feeding Pets of the Homeless Give a Dog a Bone week returns for its eighth year, August 6-12, 2017. The Carson City based nonprofit organization Pets of the Homeless, focused exclusively on feeding and providing veterinary care to pets of the homeless, leads the charge across the country to collect pet food from the public.

No matter how good you are at this thing called life, at one time or another, you may have agreed on a bad deal. This could be any type of deal. It could be a relationship that went south. The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will continue a project to eradicate, control, and contain known infestations of invasive plants in the Lake Tahoe Basin using chemical treatment. Work will take place at approximately 90 infestations sites (18.25 acres) beginning in mid-July and continuing through September 2017.

Hazy conditions around Carson City and the region is due to the smoke from several fires in Nevada and California that continue to burn Sunday with thousands of firefighting personnel battling the blazes.
