Memorial wall returns to Carson City; drives awareness of opioid crisis in Nevada
Bringing awareness to the opioid crisis in Nevada and the nation, Partnership Carson City in collaboration with the Nevada Attorney General’s Office is visually displaying the impact of opioid abuse.
Held in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, Wednesday, Aug. 31, the Opioid Memorial Wall is 16 feet tall by 8 feet wide with empty pill bottles affixed to it.
The display is located on the front lawn of the Office of the Attorney General, located at 100 North Carson St., in Carson City, Nev.
“Each bottle represents one of the deaths from an opioid overdose in Nevada to help visually demonstrate the seriousness of the issue,” said Samantha Szoyka, deputy director for Partnership Carson City. “It’s a silent killer and sometimes you may not even know if someone is struggling with addiction. That’s why it’s so vital to talk about opioids with your children, youth, family members, or friends openly. It’s also a reminder to remove harmful drugs from your homes and safely dispose of them. An overdose can happen so quickly and leaves lasting pain.”
View the wall today through Friday, Sept. 2.
