Evacuation site in Gardnerville, Carson City Community Center filled after opening Monday

UPDATE: The Carson City Community Center shelter evacuation site is at capacity. Evacuees from the Caldor Fire can go to the following places:
— Reno Sparks Convention Center, 4590 S Virginia St, Reno, NV (capacity 454)
— Fuji Park (capacity 62) – 601 Clear Creek Rd. Carson City, NV 89701
— Lifepoint Church, 1095 Stephanie Way, Douglas County
— Dayton Rodeo Event Center (capacity 150 RVs for dry camping and a limited number of large animals) – 500 Schaad Ln, Dayton, NV 89403
— Lyon County Fair Grounds (capacity 200 RVs for dry camping and large animals) – 100 US Highway 95A East, Yerington, NV 89447

With the Douglas County evacuation center in Gardnerville now full, plans are underway to have evacuees of the Caldor Fire in South Lake Tahoe go to two locations in Carson City that will be open later today — the Community Center on East William Street and Fuji Park.
As of this afternoon, the Red Cross is working at both locations to prepare for evacuees. The centers will be open later today (Monday), said Carson City Emergency Manager Jason Danen. Fuji Park is located at 601 Old Clear Creek Road in south Carson City. The Carson City Community Center is located at 851 East William Street.
The main evacuation site will be the community center, said Danen at 3:20 this afternoon. People with large animals can stay with their animals at the Fuji Park location, considered a secondary location.
"Douglas is now at capacity. We are working as quickly as we can with the Red Cross to get these two locations open as soon as possible," said Danen. "We are going to be impacted real hard, real fast."
The plan is to have both centers open up simultaneously, he said. The Fuji Park location will be able to handle large animals, he added.
Thousands of evacuees were ordered to leave the City of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., on Monday morning as the Caldor Fire threatened to move into the city limits.
Illuminated signs on Highway 50 Spooner are saying the Douglas County evacuation center is full in Gardnerville. The Nevada Highway Patrol is working traffic patrol for eastbound traffic, with west bound traffic to Tahoe being closed.
We will update on when the two Carson City evacuation centers will be officially open.
Meanwhile, Jim Peckham, Executive Director of Friends in Service Helping, said FISH will provide lunch and dinner meals to evacuees as needed at the FISH Family Dining Room, 138 E. Long St., Carson City.
The Northern Nevada Dream Center is assisting evacuees and is taking donations of water, wet and dry pet foods, snacks, blankets and toiletries. Items can be dropped off today, Monday, starting at 3 pm and all week between 10 to 2 pm. NNDC in the Istorage Business Park on Hwy 50 East across from Goodwill, 3579 Hwy 50 East No. 211. Also, Lifepoint Church off Stephanie Way just opened for evacuees.
