Carson City area weather: Heat to climb near 100 or more later this week
National Weather Service forecasters say the heat factor will lock in this week, quite possibly through the Labor Day holiday weekend, with hot and dry conditions to prevail and daytime highs approaching records by mid-week and beyond.
Forecasters advise to take precautions to prevent heat illness, especially if having outdoor plans.
High pressure strengthens this week with hot weather returning midweek. Afternoon highs could warm to around 10 degrees above average with lower western Nevada valleys nearing records with near triple digit heat possible. By Thursday, the lower valleys of western Nevada may see localized areas of high heat risk, NWS forecasters said.
A prolonged stretch of heat is possible through the Labor Day weekend, according to the weather service.
For the Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, daytime highs will be in the mid to high 90s to near 100 later in the week through at least Friday. In the Lake Tahoe Basin, daytime highs will be in the low 80s through Friday.
Persistent heat may be impactful to the general population with higher risks for elderly or other heat sensitive individuals, weather service forecasters advise. Never leave children or animals in a heat exposed vehicle for any amount of time.
