Firefighters knock down small fire at Carson City landfill
UPDATE: The fire at the landfill Sunday afternoon has been extinguished, said Carson City Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini. There were no threats to structures or nearby wildland. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. It started in an area of the landfill where household items are disposed, Pedrini said.

Carson City Fire Department responded Sunday afternoon to a fire reported at the city's landfill in east Carson City.
The fire call came in at 1:42 pm. at the landfill, 3600 Flint Drive. The fire was reported by a landfill employee. First responders on scene report a 30 foot by 30 foot fire with no structures threatened.
There have been several fires at the landfill this year, including a fire that burned for five days.
Multiple landfill fires in the past have been due to improperly disposed of rechargeable batteries. At this time, the cause remains unknown.
